After searching I did find a great thread showing how to remove the weird sub enclosure on my 09 Access cab however did not find much else about replacing the sub.

I am not much into huge bass anymore (40 yrs old now LOL) however I do like the little added punch from the factory unit. I have not removed mine as of yet however am curious if anyone can say if I could do so and replace that huge box thing with a simple flush mounted smaller sub?

If the leftover space is too small for any aftermarket sub is it possible to maybe just add an extra speaker to the existing wiring? I am trying to keep a little sound as the truck available to me already had the sub option and I had to take it. I am hoping to free up some space in my rear access area and am planning on removing the console as well.

It has been many years since I played with radio stuff and I have no idea as to whats available in subs these days. I am thinking something like a small 6 inch sub fit in closer to the body as this horrible factory box sticks out at least 7 inches......thanks for any suggestions.

be careful changing out your stereo. there is no cure for the itch to change things you will contract.

How about a link to the removal thread.
I thought at first it was the Warp Drive Unit; disappointed in that respect, but I would like to reclaim the space.

I should think that just hooking up a smaller sub should be a plug and play, but you never know.
You would need find out where the cross over filters are and how the thing is wired into the speaker fade and balance ckts in order to replace with non-sub speakers.

i don't think there is any logical or economical way to use the factory amp for an aftermarket sub. if your truly concerned about space and you aren't looking for window flexing bass check these out.

should fit right under your seat. amp is integrated all you need is a signal.

Thanks and that infiniti looks like just the perfect set up. I will have to find the link again later as I was searching other forums when I came across it. It was a pretty simple removal with a few screws at the bottom section and some c-clips on the sides.

Headed to work and will catch up later tonight...thanks again.

I am not very good at specs on stereo stuff and as such really did not know the factory sub had a dedicated amp for power. I was curious if I could not find a small flush mount type replacement sub I may get away with using the sub wires to power a standard speaker.....is that even possible or is the factory wires only to be used with an actual sub woofer??

The large factory box is so much in the way that if nothing else I may just remove it and use nothing just to have a little extra room.

I can not find the thread right now however I am using the work computer and dont have much time. I am not sure if it was on here or another forum as I was searching all night when I found the photos.

From what I remember removal was pretty easy and when removed there was a few small holes left but nothing major. I also believe there was a single pre-wired connection left over that should be easy to use for something else.

Thanks for the heads up on that and I will be checking it from time to time. I am working on cleaning up some space in the access cab tonight and am almost finished with removing that goofy storage compartment.

I have looked around online and just realized how long it has been since I toyed with stereos and custom stuff. The last system I had was from 1992 installed in a Mustang.....it was a Kenwood 921 Amp with two 12 inch kickers in a factory box. Yes much has changed since then and I am basically hoping to remove this horrible factory enclosure while keeping some type of sub.
