Different thermostats?

I tried finding any info on this but could not. Are there two different thermostats for first gen tacomas?

i just replaced mine and unless they just put the wrong thermostat in the box it is the correct part number and I have seen some posts of others with similar thermostats, but it is obviously different then the one I pulled out.
One on the left is OG, right is new school

P.S. the original was set at 12 o clock. Put the new one in at 6

 

Howdy, when I got my timing belt kit from aircabinman off ebay, the only part of the kit I didn't like was the tstat. It looked like a cheepie where all the other components looked genuine OEM. I choose not to use it and purchased an oem one from a dealer. Not real reason, I just didn't like the looks of it. Looked just like the picture above.

Most all the aftermarket thermostat are made very cheaply.

The OEM thermostat is twice the quality,
Stay with the OEM stat,

 

Huh? Unless the thermostat I pulled out is not OEM then they are both OEM. Yet different. I have seen both styles as listed as OEM.

I just want to know if and why there are two OEM thermostats

Ok, are you saying the one on the right looks like the OEM part and you can confirm this?

 

Im just saying the one on the left looks like the typical 10.00 aftermarket market type.

You can look at the thickness, weight and quality and you should see a BIG difference.

I have not seen an OEM like the one on the left, so not 100 percent but it’s cheap looking

I actually use a corolla OEM 170 thermostat.
Maybe the one on the left is one of those cheap fake ones, not sure but there are probably plenty
of fake ones out there if you didn’t get it from the dealership

 

If the left one is fake or cheap the is fine. The one on the right is what I just installed
