Good morning all. I'm in the process of replacing the clutch on my 2001 tacoma. And I came across my differential actuator being broken. Now I have a spare one however it is off of a 4Runner. Now I know that both actuators fit in the same differential so I don't see why I couldn't use the one off the 4Runner. Now my issue is the wiring the wiring off the 4Runner differential actuator only has two wires. And the differential actuator off the Tacoma has six wires now can anybody help me with a wiring diagram or explain to me how I can wire this up to make it work. I've attached the pictures for reference.

They're DIFFERENT. 4R are vacuum control and your 01 is electronic. Will not work.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It is not that difficult to make this work .

You just need to sit down and figure out just what you for parts.

This will be interesting to see someone convert an electric actuator to vacuum.

Why do you say that ?

Unless the actuators are 2 different physical sizes ?

Then it is a physical size difference rather then the difference between electrical and vaccum

Because I haven't seen a conversion done and will be nice if someone can make it happen. Especially for the 01-04 model with the electric actuator.

IIRC, on the electric one, it's 5 prong pigtail. 2 are for ground and 3 for power. I could be wrong because it's been years since I looked at one. On the 4r, the actuator is controlled by a vsv that is activated by a switch on the tcase and the 2 wire pigtail is to indicate engagement/position.

So is it possible to make it work, definitely. Is it worth the headache to source the parts needed to make it work, probably not. That's why I haven't seen a conversion done/write up. So yes, it will be interesting to see a write up on one. But it will be easier to source the correct actuator or to solve the potential rust issue in the future, swap to the manual locking hub and j case.

Just because there is no write up does not mean it has not been done.

Perhaps it comes to just being me .

The end result is more critical then How I get there .

A switch just opens and closes the gate,

Soooo, you'd done it? I don't see what you're trying to get at. Anything is possible like putting a v8 in a Tacoma, adding a turbo instead of a supercharger or swapping IFS to a 3 link suspension solid axle.

If you done the conversion and everything work as should, share your experience and knowledge so other can use it in the future. There's a ton of issue with the electric actuator not engaging because of moisture/rust.

I'll leave it at that. :hattip:

This will be interesting to see if someone done the electric to vacuum swap. A few years ago when my electric actuator died, I was searching on how to run an earlier tacoma vacuum actuator but end up giving up because the wiring is tied to the tcase actuator, have a small control box in the dash, and miscellaneous parts search. Bought a lifetime warranty Dorman replacement and I already swap it once already. Thank you lifetime warranty.
