    Everything TW members recommend
OP used 1/4" I.D. fuel line, which fits nicely over the the hose barb that he posted. Others have used 5/16" I.D. fuel line which would likely fit better over the larger diameter hose barb (the silver one I believe)

I know members have used both and none have reported any problems yet. But for my personal preference, part#5139 is closer to the same diameter as the breather union so it would make sense to keep it together for the same hose. I actually bought both of them and didn't realize unitl I got them that they were different. On a related note, I have part #90404-51026 up for grabs if anyone wants it. $5 shipped. Haha!

I bought 5' of 5/16 fuel line and the hose fitting. Used the factory breather and just clamped it into the hose.
Tookaybe 10 minutes to do this

you don't want to use that (one you took off the diff) it's not a true breather. you just extended it away from the diff. You will still have the same issue - potential to suck water in when it gets hot. You want the true breather so any pressure with be dissipated, won't get a chance to build up.

Its a open vent with a cap on it. If my truck gets water up to that vent I've hydrolocked my motor. It will be fine.

Is this cap (90930-03136 (Breather Union)) different from whats currently on the housing? Besides the thread being part of it...

Are you recommending a specialized breather similar to the one sold at Piranha? (http://www.piranhaoffroad.com.au/product/recovery/diff-breathers)

Please see my breather mod thread for clarity amigos (link in my sig.)
The stock "thing" that is on the rear differential from the factory is NOT a breather, no matter what they call it. It is a spring loaded VENT. It only lets gasses OUT, but not fresh air IN. A "real" breather is a TWO-WAY flow of gasses out, fresh air in SO NO VACUUM is created in the differential and THAT is what PREVENTS contaminated water from SUCKING INTO the differential.

THIS MOD puts a TRUE BREATHER, that Toyota uses on the FRONT differential, at the end of a hose, higher than any water level (hopefully). It is just a small opening so a bunch of dirt doesn't get in. They (K&N etc) also make filters to use for breathers on the end of the tubes.

If you take off the stock "VENT" from the differential and put IT at the end of the hose, up high... you solved NOTHING! Any questions???

Was it hard to put the fuel line on the breather? I can't get it all the way on for the life of me

Awesome DIY! FYI, if you decide to go full retard like myself - it takes you longer to finish this if you connect the hose first and then try to put the clamp on. :frusty:
