This info is goof for first gens and pre-tacoma pickups...i have NO IDEA if it works for 2nd gens

The factory breathers are a metric thread, but it is very close to #2 Pipe thread (1/8")
coiled rubber air hose had #4 pipe thread (1/4") ends on it
found some #2 to #4 adaptors and put everything together

Thanks to neubs for the write up. Just did the mod today. One thing i noticed-- The old breather was almost spring loaded or something. When I blew through it, air would go out, but when I tried to suck air through it, it would just shut and wouldn't allow any. The new one on the other hand was different- it would allow air though it both ways. I also looked underneath the hood to check what the other breathers were like and found that one of them is like the new one (non spring loaded) and one of them is like the old one (spring loaded).
Whats the difference, and why does the mod call for the non spring loaded one?

    Thanks guys

I have no idea why they would have a non spring loaded breather. The pressure will go out and nothing will go in with the spring loaded one. Isn't that what you want to happen ? I used to take mine out and clean it up on my 1st gen to make sure it would work. My brother in law had to replace the seals on his and I didn't want to do that. I think I'll do this mod when the weather get better.

Not sure about local auto parts stores for the OEM stuff but you certainly get the fuel line and clamps from a local place. You could order union and breather from Toyota of Dallas: http://www.trdparts4u.com/Scripts/default.asp

And while you are at it, you could order some oil filters and get free shipping on the order.
    http://www.trdparts4u.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-6892

You can always use the filters at a later point in time and at least you will not have to pay for shipping. I just did this when I needed some spark plugs and they shipping everything at no additional cost. Hope it helps.

Yes, both in the engine bay.

Any one have an idea Why ??? the FJ has two breather in the back ???. One for the differential with another for the locker ???? I have four friends with FJ's and I tough that they have the same (similar) rear end. Talking about OR model.
