Been wanting to do this but tie my locker breather into it anyone have pics or could describe where the locker breather is as i can't seem to find it. Also to be really cheap is there any advantage of buying a new two way breather opposed to just putting a spong or something over the end of the hose. thanks

Just installed the rear diff px relief mod yesterday and while removing the old relief valve heard the hissing of the diff depressurizing. The mod was super easy but I wanted to get the PSA out there of whether or not you do it, check those valves. Mine was frozen on a 2009 Sport with 90k with not a lot of time off-road.

Front and Rear Locked, 35’s, Chevy 63” swap, Fox Suspension and a bunch of other shit too long to list.
Keeps water outta your diff in deep water crossings. It’s has the breathe and let gasses out so it’s vented just above the 3rd member. This moves that point way up by the gas cap.

Just ordered parts to do this. I just changed my rear dif fluid a couple thousand miles ago but have been launching my boat since! I should probably change the fluid again for the hell of it...

Hey guys, I ordered the parts as listed in the OP. I've installed the nipple in the diff housing, ran the 1/4" fuel line to my rear drivers taillight, but I can't seem to get the breather nipple into the hose. It's too big. If you notice in the OP, the breather nipple OD is larger than the OD of the nipple on the diff housing. I've tried dish soap and even a little lube oil but I can't get that nipple into the hose. I'm using 300psi fuel line as that's what they gave me at the shop where I bought it. I assume I need some lower rated hose that is more expandable to accomodate that wider OD fitting?

You could try some heat. That might make it able to be expanded just a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion, Aaron. Have you done this mod yet? Did you use 300psi 1/4" fuel line for yours?

Like many modifications I have purchased, I bought a kit that is sitting in my shed waiting patiently for me to some how find time to actually install it. I am sure I have a link to the kit somewhere and in fact, it was probably from this thread that I found the link, but I cannot recall off the top of my head which vendor I purchased it from. As an independent seller of license plate brackets I appreciate someone taking their time to put together a kit so even though it cost just a bit more than sourcing the parts myself I wanted to reward the hustle of another TW member so I purchased it from them and consequently have absolutely no idea what the strength of the hose is that I have.

If you are careful you can attempt heating the hose. Worst case scenario should be that you have to go to plan B(whatever that is) and probably cut off an inch of ruined hose it you try it and it does not work. Besides, if other methods have not worked then you have a 6 foot piece of useless fuel line right now so you may as well see if it works.

You might also try finding a tapered rod or tapered reamer that you can use to stretch the hose just a bit.

I believe the hose that I have won't work because it's too stiff for this application. Heating it won't make it stretch because it's a 300psi fuel hose. It's engineered to not bulge under pressure or normal operating heat from a vehicle. The OP parts list has a diff housing nipple and breather nipple that are different ID's, so you need a stretchy 1/4" hose to make it work because the breather nipple is actually 3/8". David K has listed a different part number on Page 9 of this thread for a 3/8" diff breather nipple that would work with 3/8" hose and, i presume, make this whole process easier.

I dunno....I seem to be the only one that's had a problem with this. It must be the hose.

It probably is the hose, but the heat I had in mind was a torch, propane or MAPP gas, where you were almost melting the hose or certainly heating it up much hotter than what it would be exposed to in a normal hot engine environment.

Hey there, Thanks for your write up!
Just got the tubes, filter and other items to move my diff breather up, crawled under the truck and can’t find anything on the differential! Totally confused and feeling doopid. The diff lock motor has one, but not the differential itself. Where’s it located? I have a 2006 TRD off-road.
