Ok, so I got the wrong breather. Went to the dealership and they said they couldnt get anything like the one I wanted. So I was just looking at toyotapartsales.com and for the breather they want $2.84 which is great, but want $10 for shipping? WTF? How can you charge $10 to ship a little piece?

Fedex charges them what they charge. It's probably a contract minimum.

Probably something about ensuring delivery of the part without damage.

Ask them if you're truly curious.

try a different dealer, I got both parts from my local dealer, however they got me the wrong bolt for my rear bench seat that I also ordered. -_-

I got the diff mod done though! Thanks Neubs!

    great pics...!

    "who's the u-boat captain?"

i'm not so sure the two breathers on the front are that much higher than the front fenders.

I have pictures of the front diff and Xfer case breathers that are in the engine bay, but I can't post them right now... They are side by side and are about the height of the bottom of the battery (IIRC).

The lowest breather is the transmission breather and that is behind the engine block. It mystifies me why this wasn't made higher.

I know the second gens have the front differential breather in the engine bay, but do the first gens also have it located in the engine bay?

Oswego, if you had the ability you should toss the carpet and go to old school rubber floors. I really wish that was an option for trucks, it was great in my dad's late 70s Ford.

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
Did the mod today, a quick 15 minutes after work.

Oswego-You might have just convinced me to rip out my interior sometime in the near future, I was really thinking about throwing in a vinyl or rubber flooring interior if I could find one. The carpet traps too much dirt/sand/other junk. Or I'll just invest in some Weathertech mats.

lol did you condition it too?

I've had to do that before. I bought a car to turn around and sell for a profit. We had to gut the interior and clean it with industrial orange clean and a pressure washer to get all the grease and dirt out.

Couldn't one just use an inline check valve and a breather filter instead of ordering the part from toyota? I'm thinking about doing this in the next few days. I don't typically drive through water but in case I do I will be prepared.
