What weight of fluid and amount used for the 2016 Tacoma TRD 4 wheel drive transfer case?

75w LV (either Toyota, Ravenol or Redline sell that viscosity. Otherwise a syncromesh fluid is the next best thing)

    Capacity is about 1L

Looks simple enough found the two crush washers, 24mm and have a hand pump for the fluid, let it drain out a bit and you're full. Went with Ravenol 75w Full syn. $26 per qt bought two.

    Thanks for the help everyone!

I just bought OME transfer cases oil from the dealership and wow! Almost $200 bucks for a quart! And the service manual instructions say replace with 1.1 quarts. No way am I buying 2 quarts. Wish I would have read all your responses would have saved me cash.

You got severely ripped off. You can find it online for $75-90, and I only paid $80 to get it from a nearby dealer (ordered online). The can is 1L which is close to 1.1qt. I didn't quite need the whole can. If you're worried about it, save a bit of the old oil that drains out in case you need to top it up.

I was quoted almost $1700 CDN for the dealership to change out both front and rear diff. This price also included transfer case.

I did my Diffs and transfer case back in March. We had an unseasonably warm Saturday and I took advantage working outside.

I Bought 6 quarts of Supertech full synthetic 75w90 to use in the front and rear. $10.42ea totaling $62.52
Got 2 quart bottles or RedLine MT-LV off Amazon for $25 each because the book says you need 1.1 quarts but could probably just get one.
A gasket set is available on amazon for $5.99. I was at just under $120 for the materials to do it.
I watched the youtube videos from Team Oil Drop before doing it. the videos are very good, short, to the point and have essential tips for success. It took me about 3 hours to do all of it in my driveway by myself. I fooled around and took breaks, waited for the fluids to drain a good while and also changed my engine oil and air filter too in addition to having to remove and install the TRD skid plate. None of the work is difficult if you can use basic tools and crawl under the truck.

I did the fluid change. But had trouble breaking loose the filler plug. Couldn’t get 24mm to bite, so I had to heat it up and use vice grips to break it loose. All filled, but will now need to go to dealer for new replacement plug.
