Im seeing a lot of posts about differential howl on Gen 3’s. Some people say it’s a normal characteristic, some say it’s NOT normal. some dealers replace the diff, some do not. I have a 2017 TRD OR with Fox 2.5 inch lift and JBA UCA’s and Fox 2.0 on the rear. I’ve noticed differential howl since day one. Suspension went on at 2500 miles. It’s pretty quiet but I can hear it faintly. If I talk to the dealer, I’m guessing they will give a hard time and blame it on the aftermarket suspension. Is anyone getting new differentials covered by warranty with aftermarket suspensions??

There is a TSB out for 2016-2017 TRDs. They may extend it to you since you have a TRD as well. Wouldn’t hurt to ask them!

Also, they are no longer really replacing diffs for this howl (per this forum). It’s just a harmonic resonance. The TSB should help quiet it down. If yours is already quiet then it may get rid of the noise completely.

The TSB uses different rear springs, sound deadener, and I think a different cab mount.

I thought I saw you have a 2018 TRD, but I must be blind haha You have a 2017 TRD so this TSB applies to your rig. Locking rear diff is part of the TSB.

Got it! Very helpful. Do you think the dealer will bust my balls about the aftermarket suspension?

Probably won't help, but can't hurt to go to the Dealer and ask.

But do you really want them changing you rear springs? I would take it to the dealer and see if they can do just the sound deadening parts without the springs. According to the TSB that is what they do with the super longs ( I assume this is DCLB's).

Short beds get the new leafs per the TSB. Like Mountain Minstrel said maybe they will let you do everything else instead.
