If I don't have the lock button are the wires still in the dash and all I need is to install the switch or do I have to do more

It may depend on what year it is, but I doubt the wires are there. Even if they were, you still have to wire it to an actuator and a TRD offroad differential.

No you would have to swap in a trd Offroad axle.

Sorry man. Getting that locker isn't cheap. If you don't want to swap axles, you could always install an ARB Air Locker. It'll still be expensive though. Best of luck.

Any thoughts about getting an air locker vs a OR axle and wiring it up?

My personal belief? I would go the ARB air locker. Out of both of the TRD Offroads I've had, both of the lockers failed on me. The first one I had worked a lot but after months of use, it gave out, never to turn on again. The second one (this one) has always been a pain in the ass to turn on. I've only got it to engage twice throughout the years. A good amount of people have had the same problem and the only way to fix it, is to take the actuator apart and reassemble it a certain way.

Not to sound snarky but are you turning the steering wheel while rolling forward slowly. This gets the diff to walk and you can hear a click when it engages. I had a 2011 trd OR and I was pretty frustrated with the locker until I learned how to engage it

AIR, they disconnect and connect immediately. Also the OR axles are an 8.0 rearend and if you don't have an E locker you can get the ARB Air locker since that rearend is an 8.4.

I would hit the button and then do sort of a cone slalom. This would work everytime..

If you're going straight the wheels are turning at the same rate (obviously) .. remember it's the side gears that lock to the case. They need to rotate at different speeds for lock apparatus to fall into place..

Correct, but once the switch is hit and it loses air, it doesn't take much for them to disengage. My tacoma ARB's work amazing. My land cruisers factory Elockers I practically do figures 8's
