Yes in order for the dealer to get paid for the work done, because time is money.

If parts are coming next month I seriously doubt you'll cause any damage. I'd just ask that they top off the differential fluid and you'll be fine.

I agree completely, but it sure would suck to be the one.

I wish someone would find the law that says a dealership can seize your vehicle. I read through all the NHTSA laws and could not find it. How can a private company seize your property without proper compensation. Isn't that called larceny? Even the government must have a warrant.

Not upset. I called big Toyota first and asked if they were going to do anything for customers assuming they would not. I was right, the CSR said they had nothing. I never try to beat up the messenger so I asked that he file my concern. I realize the local dealership is not at fault but they sold me the vehicle and they represent that brand. Now, surprisingly, I received a letter in mail today from dealership apologizing for the inconvenience and with a $100 gift certificate to be used at dealership. I didn't think I would see that so they made an effort. I would not call them out on social media either. Not who I am. Happy to have the truck back.

There is no such "law", and even if their were it would be a blatant violation of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States...

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Put on your Toyota lawyer hat... if you admit a problem, let someone leave your dealer with known problem occurring, and an accident occurs then you are wide open to a lawsuit.

Not condoning it is right, just thinking this is how corporate America thinks and acts. And they feel they owe you nothing for the inconvenience.

Toyota should owe him something and be using the local dealers as the conduit to say sorry.

5100's all around, OME 887 with 1/4" spacer, icon 3 leaf aal. 255/75/17 BFG KM's on 4runner pro's. Rigid led pods. Debadged and tinted.
When VW was having issues with windows on the beetles not sealing/rolling up properly, they made 2 months payments for all affected owners, just to say sorry. Now, mind you, this was years before the "dieselgate" scandal, so they were doing it in good faith, not to save face. It would be nice if Toyota did something for those that are affected...

Same here! Two weeks Monday. I actually went in to get rid of the rental they gave me, a Dodge Journey :) While I was there, I asked how much longer, up to 6 weeks more, then got a 2017 SR5 taco. Going back again to upgrade to a DC or Tundra, need more room for our trip to the coast :)
    It really does suck!!!!

I dont mind my Honda CRV. Im getting pretty good mileage. The space is good enough for what I need.

Enterprise on Oahu need not rent to tourists because a huge chunk of their inventory is out on loaners. Its so bad that I dont even need to go and resign my rental agreement which expires this weekend. It wont surprise me if im waiting thru September.

    Fuck toyota.
"We're confiscating your truck because of a recall. Also we don't have the parts...not sure when they will be here"

Am I supposed to be happy?

What about the monthly payment people, I'd be really pissed having to fork out the cash every month only to be driving a rental/loaner

Yep a huge mess. Trucks held up to 3 months so far and no end in sight. Check out the other thread on the recall. Some dealers have over a 100 trucks that were seized on the lots.

Toyota doesn't care. The Tacoma is still killing in sales and until it doesn't Toyota will not change the way they treat customers

This ^ X1000. Why would anyone even agree to pay for a truck they can't even use at no fault of their own.

Because you're technically paying off the loan, not the truck.

There is another side to this though... If someone knows Toyota is going to keep their truck for weeks at a time to fix it, why not just drive it until the thing grenades, then have Toyota haul the thing off to be fixed... along with all the other damage it may have caused.

The truck being taken for a recall doesn't take away your requirement to pay the loan. Again, payments are getting made on the loan, not the actual vehicle.
