Decided to do my own driveline lubricant changes. Watched youtube and it looks pretty easy. went to dealership to purchase the oil and this is what they sold me and how much it cost. They said it is all they use and it is good for both the differential and the transfer case. The shop foreman has 25 years and i confirmed with him and the parts guy. Did i just get screwed? This seems pricey for 192 ounces of oil. I have a 2015 TRD sport 4X4

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you got screwed hard! That’s $25+ per quart!

I understand but I would definitely take it back and just go to any auto parts store or nearest Walmart and get the house brand. Your diffs will be fine. Just make sure it’s a gl5 oil and you’ll be good to go.

Ok.I see alot of Mobile1 being used. That seems to be a preferred choice in the Taco community.

Any brand with the GL-5 API specification and the correct viscosity will be satisfactory and work without problems.

Double check your Owner's Manual for specific details and to confirm.

Suggest to return those Golden not gallons.

pricey for sure, quite a mark up at that dealer, especially for a non toyota product! The BG brand aint cheap anywhere, but that's ridiculous. Redline 75w90 GL 5 is pretty popular, but you can't get it at autozone or most local places. I just bought another gallon of it on Amazon for $65, so still kinda expensive but it's one of the more trusted brands.

I agree as long as you use a gl5 oil you are in good shape. I have used mobil 1 gear lube for the rear diff, when it was the best local option.

Mobil1 got expensive. I’v started to use Lucas conventional since I change the diff fluid every 30k miles (anyway).
