Hi guys I am a college senior, been wanting a tacoma since I was 16. Decided financially that I am ready to make the plunge and pick up myself a taco.

My ideal tacoma is a 4x4 TRD Sport in spruce mica, or pyrite mica. However, I am having trouble trying to decide if I need a double cab or an access cab.

I generally only haul dirtbikes, my girlfriend, my dog, and occasionally canoes. I don't have kids, and hopefully I can keep it that way for awhile.

So I am looking at the following and would love some input, as well as the pro's/cons of owning an access vs. a double?

and how often have you used your diff locker? I am still not sure if a TRD OR or TRD Sport is more my style.

    Thanks guys!

It's up to your personal preference then if you like the look of an access cab or double cab. I don't need a double cab really, but I do like the additional room and ease of storing things with double cab doors. The access cab is more "truck" looking, but I really do like the body style of the double cab. Also I think the dog will appreciate the extra room back there!

I'm like you dude. 1 girlfriend a couple of dirt bikes, and 3 dogs. My first gen was the extended cab. It was good for the most part and I loved the extra bed space. I got a 2012 double cab short bed and I love all the extra room in the cab. Only draw back is unless your racing pit bikes your not going to be able to get the tailgate shut. And make sure you get a tailgate reinforcement plate from mobtown. No regrets with the double cab. Plus when all my buddies want to go get some lunch we fit in the truck with ease.

Tons of things to consider when buying a Tacoma. Sport/Offroad, Short/Long Bed, Auto/Manual, etc. Take your time and do your research.

The auto trader one looks like it is in Vermont. Willing to take the ride to get it? Myself out of those three choices snd your location I would try to get the 2011 for about 15-17,000 and go with it. Then if you have a problem the dealer is right there. Unless you are mechanically inclined I would leave the 2006 alone. But that is just me. Keep looking as one will reach out to you as gotta have.

Double cab long bed spruce mica! Epic. Wouldn't sell mine for anything. Best advice I got was to go with sr5 since I knew I would mod it myself. Saved me money over the sport and off road and I modded it to my liking

I may not be the best advice but, personally all I got is a dog and a girlfriend so I never do need the ecstatic back seats and the access cab back seat is perfect for gear, and if you want to haul kayaks and die bikes then you for sure want the long bed on the access cab. Just my 2 cents, I love my access cab and might get another instead of a double cab when I still don't have kids!

I'd personally go with the DC just because of the flexibility of having one. The access cab trucks are made in Texas, while the DC ones are made in Mexico. If that matters to you.

Also, that spruce one has been for sale for a pretty long time. Almost went to look at it, you could probably negotiate nicely.

I have a double cab long bed 4x4 and love it! I have kids so the double cab was a no brainier for me. The long bed, again a no brainier. And it's been filled to brimming on more than one occasion.

If you're going to keep it long term, my vote is for that 11 TX double cab.

Alright guys, so I've done a little more research, and after pricing the modifications I'd like to do:

Wheels, tires, and rims it seems I have added a few other Tacoma's to the bunch. However, as close as I'm getting to the price of a new 3rd gen, I'm considering just buying new. I'm not sure if this makes sense since we don't know the longevity of the new 3.5 for certain, but I'm curious what you guys might think of my new choices.

I am intern in Virginia, which is why these Taco's are a little further south than the usual Ohio 200 mile radius

Thanks for the help, the miles are a little higher than I'd like, but looks very clean.

I got the DCSB, I like the look of the SB better and it is really nice to have "inside" room for luggage/groceries when it rains. I too have college age kids that still ride around with me sometimes, so it was a no brainer for me as well.
