its just that a manual is all I have ever driven throughout my 50+ years of driving so I'm at home with it. I always jokingly say, I dont know how to drive an automatic and I dont want to learn!! ;)

Sounds like you are taking the American way, straight out of school and into a heap of debt if you didn't carry any over. The financial argument you are making is, "I was fortune enough to come out of school debt free, so now I'm going to take on a mountain of debt so I can catch up with everyone else." Do your future self a favor and buy an older 2nd gen or 1st gen with more miles, or compromise. I own a 2017 and went through your dilemma with choice, new made more sense to me. I get the hunger for a nice truck, just really analyze if you want to lock yourself into that. Unless you have cash, cash is still king, then buy what you want. I always hate people that make these posts I'm making, and obviously im not your dad so who the F gives a rip what I think, but seriously think about the debt you take on as a whole lump, not a monthly burden. When I was your age I made the same mistake- just trying to help a brother out

Yeah, being a frugal person like myself, I always "try" to either take the cash out of the bank and actually see it in my hands before I make a big purchase. This is good advice and the thought continues to come back whether I really "need" to buy a truck right now.

I like my current car, but don't necessarily love it, which is why I want to get into my dream vehicle. However, your advice is definitely noted. I guess if I don't buy now, at least figuring out the basics like the cabin size, trim level and features that I "need" from a new car are worth knowing.

This is one reason I love Tacoma's. The people that own them are generally nice guys who offer real advice, and are always helpful in some sense or another.

It's human nature to want what you want right away, but maybe it will suit me better if I wait till I graduate officially.

Nonetheless this thread has been incredibly helpful regardless of when I decide to purchase.

At least now I know I what I want:
    Access Cab (6 ft bed)
    4x4
    TRD Sport
Prefer Auto but Manual would be okay.
Have 3 colors in mind I can live with

Now just to test drive a 2017 and compare it to the 2012-2015's

Cause I'm not making the mistake of buying a vehicle I don't love to save a few bucks again.

I just got a 2011 double cab short bed, I'm young still (26 y/o) and planning to have kids at some point in my life, so figured it was the best decision. The short bed has hauled everything I have needed it to, but I still sometimes wish I had a long bed.

Here's one silly thing to consider about double/access cab. Besides the longer bed, the ability to easily reach back in an access cab and slide open the rear window when driving around on a warm day is a big plus to me. I don't think it's as easy to reach back and do that with a double cab. So, longer bed and that awesome rear window are one additional way to not fret over not getting a double cab. :)
