I've got a 4cyl 2010 AC 4x4 Manual Transmission. I bought it about a year ago and have loved it! Ever since I got it I have felt that it is more difficult to shift into 1st than other manual transmissions that I have driven. I have to slow down to almost a complete stop to shift into 1st. This is a little bit annoying in situations where I am trying to downshift (slow-moving traffic, parking lots, etc.) and I have to come to a complete or near-complete stop.
I don't have any issue shifting into gear when the vehicle is stopped (I did some research and found that that can be an issue - I do not have that issue).
What could be the issue? Maybe this transmission is just more difficult to shift into 1st than other vehicles?
Not sure if this is the best place to post this question. If not, can someone direct me?
    Thanks

    Stock for now.. maybe

That seems about normal. I usually don't even try to shift into until I'm almost stopped. All of my other manual vehicles have been like this as well. If you're rolling to a stop with clutch in and trying to get it in first gently you will feel it slip right in at a certain point (probably not get for anything) but that will give you a better idea of when your vehicle like to be put into first so you don't have to try to force or have clutch depressed as long

Yep. That's how mine is. Always a bitcheroonydoony when you're coming to a stop light but then it suddenly turns green. You have to basically stop before going again just so you can get back into first because you've already slowed down too much to pull from second. I really wish these trucks had a granny gear. Be nice if first was a granny gear and you could use second from a stop without lugging the truck.

I believe there might be a lockout gate that wont allow you to shift into first (just like reverse) above a certain speed.

Least there are syncros on it, my old jeep didnt have syncros on first or reverse, you got real good with feel haha.

    Its called reverse powerflow .
Even though you have your clutch mashed to the floor which removes the powerflow from the engine , as you slow down , your rear wheels , rear differential and driveshaft are still connected to your transmission output shaft and still spinning . You wont be able to grab first gear until the output shaft of the transmission slows down enough to match the speed of your stationary mainshaft .
Now , if you installed a clutch on your output shaft , you would be able to grab first gear at 200mph

Really like the knowledge you have and also how you are able to articulate for a normal person/a person with less knowledge of how everything works

    Don't worry not a proposal

I also recently bought a 2010 with 70k miles and have a hard time getting it into first and reverse. Just changed the trans gear oil and it seemed to help, especially with reverse gear.

Put your ear on the shifter and hold the clutch as far down to the floor as possible .
With your foot mashed on the clutch pedal , you are listening to hear when everything inside the transmission stops turning . You are going to hear the input shaft come to a stop . Once the input shaft stops , you will have zero issues selecting 1st or reverse .
Suggestion # 1 ........replace the hydraulic clutch controls . a new clutch master cylinder and a new slave cylinder .
Suggestion # 2 .... If replacing the hydraulic clutch controls doesnt fix your problem , replace the clutch .
