Digital Speedometer shows 37 MPH while stopped, is grossly wrong vs Analog while moving. Uh.

Noticed my digital speedometer was suddenly way off (see pics). The analog one looks to still be correct. Yes, I will take it to the dealer. Yes, I was very careful taking a photo with nobody else around on a quiet, simple road. It's unnerving to sit stopped in the driveway with the speedo saying 37 MPH. It's a 2017 TRD OR MT.

Anyone else have this or know why it might happen?

Try disconnecting both battery terminals. Touch them together for a few seconds while disconnected. Wait a moment or so for a full discharge, and see what happens after you reconnect them.

This fixed a malfunctioning lift hatch on the wife's Forester where just pulling the negative terminal did not.

I wonder if that is the average speed? Not the current speed showing on the digital readout.

Happened to me before in a F350. I did what was mentioned in post #3 and it fixed the problem. Never happened again.

I assume this maybe would have helped, but the problem didn't come back after simply restarting the truck. Good, but weird.

Not a bad turn of events then. Hopefully it was just a single glitch.

Clean off the shark fin antenna, if it’s dusty you won’t get accurate telemetry data bounced off the ionosphere.

Papa told me you could rub your shark fin with WD40 to get better accuracy.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Your shark fin antenna is low on antenna fluid.

This happened in my 17 Tacoma I had before. Its not common but it has been seen on some of the 3rd gens. Someone had their gauge cluster replaced and the issue hadn't returned after that.

*edit* for me though the analog was sticking and the digital was correct. I'd be doing 45 and the analog needle would have stopped moving in the 20s and would still be showing the speed it froze at.

HOW hard is it to read the manual?

Fill until it starts dripping out of the fill port. That’s your level.

Next time it happens, there is an option menu in the entune head unit that’s something like “re-calibrate speed”. Not much into on it, but it may help. It doesn’t do shit for the analog speedo, but may help the digital one (that’s if the digital one is run from the GPS signal).

Your wiring harness has likely lost a small amount of smoke. Pick a jar of this off eBay and top up.
