    Hi guys,

as mentioned in the introduction I am on the way to buy my first Taco...:D

Currently living in South Africa but on the way to move back to Germany end of the year I would have the opportunity to take a canope from Alu Cab with me.

Unfortunately there are no Tacos in South Africa and very hard to find in showrooms in Germany.

I would be able to get the canopy made to my specification...I just dont have the dimensions.

It will be, depending on the customs duties eiter an Access or a Double Cab.

I still don't know which exact measurements I will need....will meet the owner of Alu-Cab next week in Johannesburg to discuss...just to make sure that I can deliver what he requests......he already told me that he will perhaps also need some detail picktures...

I would be very gr(e)atful  if somebody would assist me

    Thanks:taco:

customs regulations in Europe decide by the ratio of wheel base and free load bay length
if the length is more than 50% of the loadbay it is per (customs) definition a truck
for a 'truck' I have to pay 23% customs, for a 'passenger car' only 10%

    means

if I can't convince the customs that a Taco Access cab with a tonneu cover is a 'passenger car' with a 'long boot'....then I have to take a double cab with a short bed......which I try to avoid as I want to put a camper on it...

    Wheel base..

    Regular Cab 4WD & PreRunner: 110.0*in (2,794*mm)

    Access Cab/double cab short bed: 127.8*in (3,246*mm)/127.2*in (3,231*mm)

Double Cab Long Bed: 140.9*in (3,579*mm)

    Regular Cab 2WD: 109.4*in (2,779*mm)

    Bed length...

    Long: 72"

    Short: 60"

    - using your formula the only truck that fits as "passenger car" will be the double cab short bed

    Thanks so far!

As I drove some challenges (when I have been young and pretty....now I am just 'and'...:() I thought about:
5-speed auto, (as said) access cab, TRD off-road package, TRD exhaust and supercharger...ECU must be reprogrammed in America as the different software is not available in Germany...the basic dimensions are a kind of easy to find in the net...just for the canopy if made by a company that has no Taco available...a kind of difficult

basically I design and make everything myself (I am a mechanical engineer with years of experience in building 4x4 parts and off-road trailers)...but experience and age has got some advantages...and one of them is that if I can buy someting that is not bad and it is not too expensive...especially if you haven't got much time...then rather buy it:rolleyes:....and improve it over the time...:D
