TacomaWorld, hoping someone can help me out. My wife and I are endeavoring to do a fairly substantial, purpose driven overland build. It's just her, our 135 lb Bullmastiff, and me. We use the truck for the three of us to road trip, camp, raft, and fly fish...with some occasional Off Roading along the way.

Seems like it makes sense to delete the rear seats. As I have access to lots of tools/machinery, I'll do the work with my Pops and enjoy the process.

I'm wondering if anyone has already done the rear seat delete, then added a platform- and could share the bulk dimensions of the rear seat area with seats removed and platform inserted?

Trying to decide how much dog food I can fit under, and how much fridge / freezer I can fit beside. Knowing these Dims would be super helpful. Again, I'm after the Dims, post install...how much space with platform. Thanks so much!

There’s a thread in the 3rd gen forum I’ve been following for ideas—but here’s my work in progress.

I wanted it as low as possible for the dog to get in and out, but with enough usable space left in the footwell. I also didn’t want to use wood, and the largest PVC material I could find locally was 24”x48”, so here’s what I came up with. 4AA25E31-5A1C-426D-BE7D-BBCAB5CF7CC6.jpg 1E454A98-AD56-4911-8798-B24EB58AF479.jpg 4C620170-97FD-4DD0-A34C-616BBD1252CD.jpg

I built a platform out of aluminum with an 8” wide PVC board as a top plate, and bolted it in using the original seat mount attaching hardware for security. It supports a piano hinge for the 2’x4’ platform—which I trimmed and reinforced with aluminum edging. An L shaped strip under it provided the necessary lift and reinforcement.

Because I have a subwoofer, I chose to maximize the void left in the 40% side, and will be trimming it so my pelican case can drop in. Overall, this void can be as large as 16”x22” (much less if I had kept the plastic trim in place). The ammo cans can slide in/out without lifting the platform.

Hope this helps. I can add more detail if you need it.

@wildbuellrider thank you! This was super helpful. I’m sure more questions will follow, but my first one is:
    Where’d you’d find that ammo can set-up? That’s awesome!

@wildbuellrider One more question. On the 40% side (driver) what is the dimension (depth) from the front of your platform to the back of the cab? You mention you’ve got a subwoofer (as do I) on the 60% side. What is your dimension on that side (depth from front of platform to the subwoofer/enclosure)? O

Your posts have been incredibly helpful. Based on what you’ve shared, I’m now leaning towards using the ammo can set up you posted. This leaves understanding how much Fridge / Freezer we can put in the driver’s side rear compartment, while still leaving room for a BIG dog. I’m leaning towards the ARB ZERO 73qt Dual Zone, dimensions are (L) 29.7 in x (W) 18.5 in (H) 22.2 in. areI would sit it on the slide...which would take nominally more space. Question 1) Does it fit? Question 2) If it fits, I’m trying to guesstimate if it leave enough room for the wonder pup.

    Thanks again!

I’ve got about 39” of usable space on the driver’s side, measured from the back of the cab (sheet metal) to the forward most edge of my platform.

On the passenger side (60% of the split) I have about 32”, measured from the subwoofer enclosure to the forward most edge of my platform.

I should add that when my seats are slid all the way back, they will contact the platform—but it doesn’t noticeably impede the seat’s full range of motion fore/aft nor its ability to recline.

Also, I did need to trim about 2” off the platform to clear the center console in order for it to hinge toward the rear of the cab. It wouldn’t be necessary to trim it here if you didn’t want the hinge feature (it would butt right up to the base of the console).

Hope this helps! I can take more pics tomorrow if you need detail how I constructed the platform.

Thank you!!! These are the Dims I've been after. Much appreciated. Allows me to plan accordingly.
