Has anyone towed your Tacoma behind a RV? I recently bought a new
4cyl, 2wd, 5sp. manual trans. with the intentions of towing it
behind my RV. What I am concerned about is that the owners
manual states not to dingy tow (all wheels on the ground) or
serious damage will occur. The manual makes no exceptions as
to transmission type, ect. It also doesn't say what or why this damage
will occur. Any input would be appreciated, but I especially would
like to hear from someone who has done this. Thank You.

    Things I need to tow.
Toyota doesn't sanction dinghy towing of any Tacoma (per the owners manual), but the manual transmission models are commonly towed. I towed my 1st gen 4X4 for several years and I know of several 2nd gens 4X4's that have been towed long distances without apparent damage. It's up to you if you want to, but don't tell the dealer. (And, don't even think about it with an automatic.)

2nd Gen transfer case is not splash-lubed. Like an automatic trans, it is lubed by a pump on the input.

I guess it will still work okay with the trans in "N" and the transfer case in 2-Hi

Wow! I don't tow mine (automatic) but my brother-in-law tows his and I'm pretty sure he doesn't put it in 4-Hi. I'll give him the heads up. He's already made two trips from ID to AZ that way (over 1000 miles each way).

    Me again,
    My Tacoma is a 4cyl., 2wd., 5sp., manual transmission.
I spoke with a gentleman who has worked for Remco
(makers of the drive shaft disconnect) for quite awhile. He told
me that I would be wasting my $'s because my trans. was a
manual shift. (A company called Superflow out of Des Moines is
    now making the disconnect.)
Does anyone out there have experience towing a Tacoma
like mine or personally know someone who does?
A flat bed trailer or tow dolly isn't a option. Thanks Again.

I'm planning on towing my 2014 4x4 automatic. As much as I hate the thought of having to deal with a flatbed, I think that will be the route I go. BTW, tons of info on towing behind an RV at RV.net.
