Here is what I build for backlight. I also have a splitter so grille lights can get the same signal.

    5D685864-FAB5-4FE1-9DF8-983730F9DC10.jpg

Center is the DD harness which they provide. Bottom left is my OEM LED conversion harness, though the halogen T and LED T harnesses provide the same 3 pos female AMP connector so it doesn't really matter how you feed it. Bottom center is the diode module combining DRL and Park to a single positive feed. Then the DD backlight piece which takes a 2 pos amp to 1 pos amp to tie directly into their harness. Top left is 3 more of the same, they are sold as a pair so I just whipped up 2 pair for the purpose of posting these photos.

Spare wire top left is just scrap I should toss. Then the nuskin top right is for when my fingers get sliced up by these terminals, so I don't bleed all over this stuff before shipping it :)

Just what I needed to know, connecting direct to the AMP on the DD harness was throwing me off. I really like the idea of eliminating the spade connection with your components.

Thanks again for the help. Nuskin and scrap wire, speaking my language.

First post, hope its not too messy and that the pic comes through. Just installed the Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro fog lights with backlight plug and play kit on my 2021 TRD tacoma (halogen headlights). Since there were no install instructions for the "plug and play" backlight harness on DD's website, and since I had zero luck finding instructions on this forum or elsewhere, I thought I'd post a pic. It IS pretty simple, but for electrical noobs like me, I was confused as hell about where to put the "inline" harness. The pic is from the drivers side, between the headlight assembly (bottom of pic) and battery (top, unpictured), looking straight down. You can see the back of the DD fog light with its distinctive rod things (cooling rods?) in the bottom left of the pic. So, where to put the backlight plug and play harness: there is a connection coming out of the stock halogen headlights that has 3 wires: red, beige, and black. Middle bottom left side of the pic, wires come out of a rubber gasket not a plug. This leads to a gray plug. Unplug this, and put the proper end (male/female, I forget...and I'm not going to go check lol) of the DD harness in that, and then plug the other end of the DD harness to the other end of the connection you just unplugged. Then plug that purple spade connector to the purple spade coming out of the back of the fog light. Done! No tapping, no loose connections anywhere. Only issue is you'll have about 2' of wire coming from the back of the fog light with the purple spade connector to deal with, which I did by zip tying to the frame out of the way of hot things or moving parts. This all might seem obvious to many of you, but I hope someone appreciates a picture :)[/GALLERY]

Thanks for sharing your install. I have all components on hand, will also snap some photos of the process as the project includes oem headlights as well.

This is what DD Elite provides. Seems simple. I can tap into a 12V w their clamps.

    IMG_9867.jpg

I bought the 2016 (halogen) plug and play but Im also running dave’s harness since I upgraded to OEM headlamps.

Has anyone that upgraded to OEM LED been able to fully plug in play the bottom harness with daves harness?

Or am I just going to have to tap into the DRL?

I have a different OEM LED conversion harness with grille lights. When paired with my DD SS3 harness it can do backlight.

I don’t really have an upgrade program. But I would be willing to modify if someone sent me their existing harness for just the delta. Provided the downtime can be managed.

Your bottom picture is the sidemarker, Turns are on the other 2 position connector with the tan wire, they look very similar.

    @daveeasa

I figured it out. You were correct.

So for those of us with halogen headlamps and the “L” DRL that did the OEM LED upgrade w Dave’s harnesses.

Diodes $20 plug and play works with daves harness. (It allows it to basically connect into the DRL/Parking, and the two connectors (purple & pink) connect into each other. You just have to zip tie the excess wires.

Yeah, for sure the most economical approach. The DD harness upstream and Oem led conversion harness (any brand) downstream.

Hey all. I have a 2023 trail edition that was pre wired for fogs. Bought the new stalk switch, engine bay harness and relay. Installed everything (except the relay) and have DD max with backlight coming. Their website isn’t clear that the halogen harness they sell isn’t for SR5 so bought another harness from Dave which people are saying works.
My question: By using Dave’s harness, am I now bypassing the fog specific engin bay harness and relay but still use my installed correct for fogs stalk switch?

My stuff is just the the backlight. The fog main signal would be your OEM wiring following the Nitori fog light thread or any aftermaket solution.

I still have to do my ‘05 Tacoma fog light wiring and stalk. Someday. So you’re ahead of me :)

Dude, it was super easy. I should have made pics and done a write up. thank you for your diligence with this work around. Let’s see if I can’t screw it up somehow.

What's the recommend method for connecting the DD backlight on a vehicle that came with LED headlamps from the factory?
    Tap or custom harness?
