Hey all. I just purchased my new truck a couple months ago and have been lurking on this site for a while. It’s a 2023 Lunar Rock Tacoma TRD Sport with tonneau cover, bed mat, black out badges, tailgate letters, predator tube steps, and TRD pro exhaust. I’m currently waiting on bronze TRD Pro wheels for it as well.
I have already changed out the fog lights for DD SS3 sports and they are awesome! I’m also running H9 low beams.
I’m considering getting the DD 30 inch hidden light bar because I’m always driving through forests on my way to work at 5 in the morning and there are always deer out on the road. Is the light bar much better than the high beams? I would only buy it if it makes a significant upgrade in light output and range. I was thinking about the combo beam.

How many things can you shut down when meeting oncoming traffic? Those fogs are already blinding other drivers.

I only run the fogs in bad weather because they are too distracting for me on a clear night. I tend to look at the ditches more than straight ahead. I was thinking about running the light bar with the high beams.

I have one, (driving) and the Max Yellow fogs. The bar is very bright, probably throws light 3 or 4 times as far as my stock halogen brights. You can see animals a long way off. Cons: It's so bright that it screws up the auto dim feature. Reflective street signs are as blinding as another car's brights. I have mine wired to a 3 way switch on the acc panel: Off, on, on with the brights. The best vision is with the dims / fogs / bar, but you have to find the panel switch to turn them off, hard to do fast. I also have some SS3's on another vehivle. The Max fogs are brighter and have a sharper cutoff. I never get flashed.

This is SS3 Pro fog lights, H9 low beams and my 18in DD light bar on my F150. A 30in will throw a lot more light!

Would the auto-dim feature still work with the light bar angled down enough? Not a deal breaker though. My auto system seems to like to flash oncoming drivers randomly

I don't know, but I'm guessing that if you angled it down enough to not affect the auto dim, the bar would be useless.... If I was to buy another one, I would try amber.

Are there light bar covers available for the 30” to change colors?

I think I might still get the light bar. Usually I find myself still turning my high beams by the switch after they turn off automatically to avoid flashing the oncoming driver. Sometimes it flashes them twice for good measure!

Um, those deer you are worried about are coming from the ditches.

Yeah I get that. I just find it harder to focus straight ahead and use my peripherals for the sides of the road when the ditches are brighter than straight ahead.

They are made up of 6 inch sections that can be changed independently so you can change each section to a different color or beam pattern for a different output or keep them all the same...

Especially since you're not coming from full OEM LED headlights, a 30" light bar will be a pretty significant boost to output. I would recommend that you go with the full driving pattern instead of the combo to maximize your down-range visibility. The nice thing about Diode bars is that the output is tuned so they do well at actually getting light down-range.
You're in luck too - we even have them on sale! I'm happy to hhelp answer any additional questions you might have about them as well.

There are no covers. However, the individual lenses are relatively easy (and cheap) to replace.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll look into getting one if the light range is really 3 or 4 times farther. With the combo beam, would it substitute the fog lights in terms of side lighting? (Which are off when the high beams are on)

It would help offset some of the "tunnel vision" effect by going combo, but it's not a "replacement" for the fogs. If you want to capture some of both I would say pick up the stealth bar and then replace the outside flood lenses with the "wide" ones. It'll do better at keeping the light down, and not illuminate the trees 50 feet up.

Thanks for the replies. I didn’t mean a replacement for fogs as in bad weather. More like ditch lighting. Those SS3s are awesome in snow storms.

I'd still make the swap personally. Especially considering it's a difference of ~$7 and a little bit of your time + maybe a new torx bit if you don't have the right size at home. They'll do a much better job of putting light down where you need it when operating at higher speeds. You can always swap them down the road, too. I've personally never loved DD's implementation of combo across their lineup so I always find a workaround .

Ok I’ll look into that. Thanks! It seems like people are mostly torn between yellow and white for the light bar. Which one should I get?
