so i just installed my smart tap. and i don’t have any arrival lights when i unlock. unlocks normally.
however when i lock them the departure mode works fine and i have em set to 10 seconds.
    why doesn’t the arrival work?

Mine does the same. There's a disclaimer on the packaging that says all features may not work on all vehicles so I just assumed the arrival is one of those features. If I want the arrival lights I just hit lock to turn them on and unlock when I get to the truck.

alright maby that makes sense if your having issues to, i did send them an email so i’ll see what they say.
wasn’t sure if had to do the opposite of what the instructions say as it says to press the unlock button i believe
id almost rather have arrival lights than departure. Also when i just locked mine the lights went on like normal, than when i did unlock they blinked twice like normal and there was no arrival lights

Just ordered both the smart tap and Toyota block. I have a 2012 with DTRL, I will follow up with my results.

waiting on a email from diode dynamics. odd that departure lights would work but not arrival. although it does say arrival and departure may not work for all makes and models

It's normal - that function doesn't work on any of the tacoma's I have tested the SmartTap with.

Sucks... but it's a blanket product - designed for a bunch of different vehicles, they did a pretty good job for the features in my opinion.

Works awesome after removing the DRL stuff and plugging in the Toyota jumper block. My ‘13 had an extra connection not shown earlier in the thread. Don’t know what it is. Everything works as it should so I don’t care either

I just did my install of the Smart Tap and the front turn signals wouldn’t work. I assumed I missed a plug and fussed around for a while before putting the OEM plug back in. Things are back to normal with the front signals now.

    Has anyone overcome anything similar?

I called Diode Dynamics and they instantly issued a warranty, so that’s great.

I removed the large grey plug just behind the row of blue relays and installed the Smart Tap in that location. That grey plug was just free in the dash at that point. That’s the right way to install it, correct?

(That white homeless plug in the background had me distracted for a while thinking that went to the front signals and I had missed reattaching it, must be a feature my truck doesn’t have)

You goofed. To eliminate the DTRL, you have to install a grey plastic jumper block. That's why your front turn signals don't work.

Look at post #82 in this thread.

Is that essentially the same way you remember it looking?

I read in some DRL threads that 2012s with the towing package have extra stuff plugged in up there that resemble the DRL module.

So, I screwed up the quote. Expand the quote and read it.

Don’t scold me! Haha. I did read it. It’s not clear to me is all because I don’t have DRL.

I do have the towing package which adds some extra garbage up there. Not clear on the function of any of it.

Or are you saying that there’s DRL equipment Toyota arbitrarily installs even though I don’t have Day running lights?

Hmm, guess I’ll try removing everything @Muddinfun is pointing out and hope I don’t lose trailer lighting or some other functionality.
