If your truck looks like this, you have dtrl

IMG_1726.jpg You have to buy that grey plastic jumper block from Toyota. If your truck has that 3 way wire harness with the flasher mounted to the right side of the fuse box, you have DTRL. I can't help it that they don't work.

I don’t think you’re 100% correct, but like I already said, I’ll give it a shot and get that jumper. Then I’ll cross reference the parts when I take them off to see if they’re in fact DRL or something else and post my findings.

    Thanks for the help guys.

The part# for the jumper block is 82671-30360. It's about $8.

I do have the 8 pin connector (apparently DRLs have a 12 pin). That was the first question Diode Dynamics asked when I called.
When I had it plugged in it was controlling the tail and mirror flashers. The other functions worked as well, just no fronts.
After reading a bunch of DRL threads I also see that the DRL bulbs were melting the lenses in the years preceding mine. The suspicious side of me wonders if dealerships were disabling DRL equipped models to avoid warranty claims.
I’ll probably try again next week when I get my hands on this jumper.

So, are you saying you have the Y harness as pictured above and the FLASHER only has 8 pins?

Somehow, I think you are counting the pins in the harness and not the pins on the flasher.

Just to shed a little more light on this, the DTRL flasher has to control the front and rear turnsignals independently so that it doesn't end up with rear facing DTRL. The jumper cap connects the front and rear turn signals together so that the 2 flasher outputs of the non DTRL flasher control both front and rear turnsignals.

So, add this to the list. If your a 2012 with the towing package and have this tan 3plug relay it will preclude you from simply plugging in the Smart Tap in the 8 pin slot. This may apply to other years with the towing package as well.

Diode Dynamics asked me to report my findings so they can update the website.

This divides the thermal load between the front and back signals similarly to the DRL flasher.

I’ll have more information on functionality of the trailer circuit at a later time. AF2FD921-9811-49F9-B954-7F50F7FA277C.jpg

Ha! That’s probably what the extra wire was for in mine so now I’ll melt things every time I pull a trailer

Or your trailer won’t light at all is my guess.

The only trailer I’ve pulled so far has been the RZR trailer. It’s all LED but it worked

I have the towing package on my tacoma (2008 TRD Off Road) and it functions fine. Granted I haven't hooked up a trailer yet...

I have a 2006 TRD Sport with the towing package and the relay works fine. But I haven't hooked up to a trailer yet either.

So what works fine about it then? I never plugged in a trailer since installation.

See your response in red - I didn't have any issues plugging mine in or the need to remove anything.

Then you didn’t have the extra towing package module.

What do you mean "what works fine about it then?" The relay works fine. What are you talking about?

The issue was I found something that looked similar to what the guys with day runners have.

I had one guy insisting I had day running lights when in fact I did not. So I cross referenced the part number and figured out they use this module to divide the electrical load when a trailer is attached.

I removed the module and installed the previously mentioned jumper block, but I haven’t yet checked what turn signal power I’m getting to the trailer plug.
