I'm pretty sure my truck has the towing package installed... Came factory with the towing package, unless the early second gens had integrated module to divide the electrical load...

I’m assuming your model years, while they came with the towing package, didn’t include the same module as a 2012+

No I don't, I don't have to read anything. You're not making any sense. My post was an FYI. Model, year, towing package, relay works. That's it.

I agree - I was merely chiming in that the 2008 model did not run into the same issues as your 2012 when you questioned my statement about it working fine.

To recap, you can find 3 possible scenarios.
    1. You can plug the smarttap in without issue and enjoy.

    2. You have DRL and need to removed the three plug harness and install jumper block.

    3. You have an updated towing package and need to remove three plug harness and install jumper block. *your trailer turn signals may not be operational at this point

Did you have to remove the three plug relay?

I’m making sense. You said you haven’t tested your trailer yet. Why would you have to test if you didn’t have to remove the three plug relay and a jumper to get the smarttap to install correctly?

You’d need both variables to have the trailer lighting affected: a towing package with a three plug harness. If you didn’t have a three plug harness obviously your trailer lights will work. Why wouldn’t they?

Actually our trucks (pre facelift 2nd gen tacomas) might pre-date Toyota LED integration into vehicles so its possible that a trailer with LED brake lights could throw off the system. However Diode Dynamic's module is designed to work with both LED and NON-LED bulbs. So its likely the three-plug harness module is in response to the introduction of LED brake lights for trailers.

Just speculating that's all. Regardless the harness that you speak of, I have never seen it in any pre-facelift tacoma I have installed the Smart Tap on. I have yet to try installing a Smart tap on a post facelift second gen though so that might be why I don't recognize it.

I have aftermarket DTRLs from @csjumper - I believe I still have the 8-pin relay (and tow package)

I'll give this unit a try and report back. One thing I love about my wife's 2016 Explorer is the quick tap blinker when changing lanes. Blinks 3 times and shuts off.

I never said it wouldn't work., there's multiple configurations between all the year models as mentioned above. Again, you're not making any sense. All I was doing was stating my truck model, year and config, noting I have not tried it with a trailer hooked up yet. That's all I said. Stop reading things into what I posted.

@Hawk373 So, was your harness a 3 way harness or a 4 way harness? You keep calling it a 3 way harness, but the pic looks like a it has 4 connectors. So, if it is a 4 way harness, then you have 1 extra truck harness connector hangin out in space that may have something to do with the trailer light wiring. Correct?

I think you’re right. Been so long since I messed with it.

Edit: I recall now, three of the plugs go into the board, the forth goes to a loan wire off to the side.
Can’t recall much more about that little guy.

installed diode dynamics smart tap and junction block and deleted the the 3 plug drl on my 2015 tacoma and everythhing works fine except it knocked out turn signals and brake lights on the trailer plug. has anyone else encountered this issue and is there a solution for it. i could simply splice in a trailer taillight converter to fix the issue but would rather not if there is another fix.
