I’m gonna take a wild guess that you had the 4 way harness.

The 3 way harness is the factory harness that goes to 2 places on the fuse box and to the DRL flasher.

It has been speculated that the 4 way harness is the dealer installed tow package wiring. In addition to the 3 places mentioned above, the 4th way of the harness goes to the tow lights. This makes an easy way for the dealer to add trailer wiring.

If all this corresponds with what you have, I would buy the plug and play trailer wiring for your truck from etrailer.com

So I’m confused. I have a 2015 and would love to have this in my truck. But not sure exactly what drl is. I know it’s daytime running lights but I can turn mine off with the knob. Does that mean they are still the drl? I know the best way to check is to check what plug I have for the relay but just figured I’d ask here and maybe get lucky. Thanks

So does your headlights or turn signals stay on no matter what you do with your switch?

No if I turn the switch to off than everything is off. Or I think they are off. Lol. Will have to double check but I’m pretty sure everything is off when switch is in the off position

Can the SmartTap be installed without taking apart the dash etc on a 2nd gen? I can reach up under the dash and grab the old relay, but for some reason it won’t come out. Is there some sort of clip holding it in that you can only get to by taking the fuse box out? I’d rather not take half the interior apart just to swap a relay.

I believe on mine I had stuff in the way which is why I had to take mine apart so I had enough space to remove it. It's been a while though...

After trying to wiggle the stock relay out from under the dash for about 20 minutes I gave up took apart the dash and installed it, which only took about 10 minutes! Really just need to drop the fuse box to get more leverage to get the relay out.

I installed my CF18 yesterday. That fuse box was a bigger hassle than expected, but manageable. Getting the old plugs out was the most time consuming. Installed new blinker LEDs front and back. I LOVE IT!! Not needing load resistors is VERY nice. I REALLY enjoy the smart tap feature. Thanks for the photos and part # to disable the DRLs. Excellent mod!!

I dont have switch back bulbs, but i think they get disabled when you take out the DRL...
    I could be wrong..

Update for anybody reading into this as I just finished my install. My Tacoma is a 2011 with DRL’s and Tow package. Purchased the Toyota Block part along with the Smart Tap Relay.

Everything works as it should. Trailer hooked up and all lights work and function along with the truck’s lights (hazards, blinkers, etc.). Absolutely love the hazard strobe option and the one touch blinker. I set mine to 4 blinks via the instructions the relay came with.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
    That’s awesome!

Thank you for this photo. Took me a second to orient myself without removing mine from the truck, (I just removed the hardware to give space to plug/unplug) but it worked well.

With the CF18 and the afore mentioned jumper, I was able to get this to work on my 2014 Off-road.

But realize that if you have DRL (either full time or on the headlight stalk), and do this mod, you will lose DRL's.

it’s actually really simple to convert to make this relay work. You do lose DRL’s but the added functionality IMHO far exceeds.
