Bored at work so killing time on the forums!

I spent a couple hours this weekend and finally tinted my front windows, much nicer on sunny days. I also decided to see how going flat on my hood would look, and hopefully it will cut some glare from the lightbar as well. It looks flat black in the pics, its actually the dark grey color of plasti. It's still drying in the pics but I might need another coat to even things out. Still not bad for an hour and $10.

If it holds up to the carwash I might end up doing the rockers as well. Until I get around to adding some extended flares my sides will keep getting rocks and mud thrown at them.

Wheels and bed cover yes. But hood no... The rest of that truck looks like it is in great shape, so to me I have no idea why anyone would that. But hey that's just my opinion and to each their own.

Glare off the light bar and protecting the hood from road debris.

Couple guys at work have also done it in hopes it will protect from hail on their brand new trucks, not sure how well it works for that, but I suppose every little bit would help.

Hey OP, what did u do to get a nice straight masking line with your plasti? Did u have to rip off your masking tape or whatever u used asap after each coat applied? I tried taping off my grille when I did mine but if the tape was left on too long then the plasti just came up with it.

Catch me up. What exactly did you paint the hood with? I'm not going to do my hood, but it works on wheels? I might be in for that. My wheels are . . . peeling. Sorta.

Plasti dip...you can use it on your wheels. They have a wheel kit they offer too.

Start out with "fine line" tape, it's about $5 at any auto paint store. It's a smooth plastic, comes in 1/8 an 1/4" sizes. Usually use it for painted pin stripes instead of stickers later. It's really flexible so you can do shapes etc, lay down the base color, tape where you want to mask and then top. I don't get too fancy but it's how I do things like this.

After that, yeah with plastidip you have to work fast. It needs to be dry enough to stay but not so dry it's actually rubber. When you're doing several coats... it's a bit of a toss up. I actually had a 1/4 pin strip 1/4" on either side of the hood paint. I made it to the last 6" of the other side when I was peeling the tape and lifted the stripe, so I peeled both entirely. Irritated me  I did 3 coats total, each one just barely off tack before the next, had the whole thing done really fast, and I still lost the stripes.

Other than that when you peel take you bend it as far back on itself as you can, if you pull up you're going to lose your edges.

Redid the pin stripes, turned out pretty decent imo.
