    Well it’s only filtered when it runs through the filter. So that dirt would get in the oil and makes its way to whatever components are on the way up until the filter. So perhaps it gets to the piston rings and the head first. I’m not sure, all depends on the design of the system. Even if it went through the motor before being picked up by the filter I wouldn’t worry much. Small shavings from engine wear floating around are probably more harmful.
