First post here. Forgive my naivety and feel free to roast me.. I just bought a 2019 SR 2.7 4x4 with 70k miles. I got it at a little mom and pop dealer. I checked out the carfax, did as best of a bumper to bumper inspection as I could and decided to buy the truck. It runs well. I’ve driven it to and from work last couple days and it’s not skippin a beat.

After noticing some leftover decal adhesive on the door, I found out the truck was owned by Davey Tree, a landscaping company.

Today I noticed it was hunting a bit at idle, so I opened up the intake and the portion downstream from the filter was rather dusty. Think a thin layer that will cake on your finger if you wipe a couple inches… I don’t know how much dust is too much but I’d imagine it’s any amount. The MAF was a bit dusty so I blew it off and reinstalled. I pull the whole intake and noticed about a 1/16” of black residue surrounding the throttle plate on the TB. The long part of the intake that goes over the engine also had a tan hue to it.

Should I be worried about this? The dealer said they’d take the truck back tomorrow if I want to bring it back. They’ll squash the loan and give me my old car back. I know my way around a car a little bit by I’m no mechanic, as you can tell. Will be back in a bit with some pictures.

I’d foolishly wiped down some of the dust from the parts, but here’s some pics. Oil on dipstick looks fresh. I’m assuming the dealer swapped it. The pan plug all clean with caked mud in the surrounding area

Also, inside the wheel well cover is SUPER dirty and dusty. Plan on cleaning that out if end up keeping this thing. This truck definitely saw its fair share of work.

Is the oil quality relevant because of dirt or dust getting in the PCV inlet? Outlet?

Just a thought that if the intake had a ton of dirt and dust some could have made its way into the engine. Oil/filter changes are cheap insurance.

I don't think you have much to worry about. Just keep up with regular maintenance.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
    I’m pretty sure it’s fine.

It’s fine, just make sure it’s properly sealed, do the maintenance and enjoy!
