Just turned 20,000km,s many of these on dirty dusty roads.
I opened my hood today and the top of the engine is
covered with dirt coming in the non-functional hood scoop.
I can see this being a problem after a few years.
There must be a way of sealing it.

You will still get dust in even if you seal the scoop area.

I suggest closing off the front of the grille and foam along hood seams.

Its not from the scoop. My engine bay is full of mud. Everything is a shade of brown.

Of course it isnt. it isnt functional.

Only way to fix it is a real cleaning every time it is driven. Roads are nasty.

Most people never clean their engine bay and it doesn't cause much more than a cosmetic issue for many years. I routinely clean mine just like I vacuum the truck, wash/wax the outside and clean the windows. But just like personal hygiene; your truck hygiene is entirely up to you.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

It is definitely coming in the hood scoop.
Most of the dirt is concentrated under it.

Fun fact: dirt settles where there ISN'T moving air.

    Think about that.

Well I have a TRD OR no hood scoop, and the entire top plastic piece covering the engine is covered in dust/dirt. Coming from a Subaru that I used to keep in pristine condition(engine bay included), I'll tell you what a friend of mine who worked for Subaru engineering/race development(they built drag cars and keep all of the "museum" cars(22B impreza, brat etc) in perfect condition told me. Warm engine. Simple Green everything in the engine bay(try to keep away from electrical stuff- connectors etc). Wait 5 minutes. Brush the really dirty spots with a soft brush. I'd use the same one I use on the wheels. Hose off- again try to keep from spraying electrical connectors directly...they are supposed to be water tight- water gets in there when driving in the rain). Then I'd use a silicone spray and spray almost everything down(again, use common sense, don't spray on the belt, air intake, exhaust etc). I always got compliments on the engine bay of my car. "This car has 50K miles on it??!? How do you keep it so clean? Hard work and elbow grease.
I haven't done this on the tacoma yet, probably will soon.
