You would be blown away by the number of people that run aluminum skids. After I started looking, I was too. That's why I'm going that direction.

Between aluminum bumper, aluminum skids, and using a synthetic winch cable, I'm shaving almost 175 lbs off the weight of all steel on the front end.

The stock skid is like tissue paper thin. Aftermarket skids are full 1/4", and have some design integrity built in besides just "thick metal". One friend that lives up by Chicago beats the snot out of his truck. He has aluminum bumper and skids. A few scuffs, but not serious damage. Plus, you don't even have to paint 'em.

BTW, I will have the TRD skid that's on my truck up for grabs soon. It started life on Everett's truck, and has spent 2 years on mine. Looks ALMOST new. They go on over the skid you already have. Provides a good bit more protection.

I wouldn't be using my skids so much if I had bigger tars :anonymous:

It's a vicious cycle....Bigger tahrs mean you try tougher shit. So you buy more skids, which takes stiffer suspension......etc....etc....etc....

I also agree that the LC does sit a bit high. Looks like block under it too, maybe body lift, I dunno enough about those yet
