There's always the possibility of a raise. I would guess they'd take me to salary instead of an hourly raise.

Have to be at 42k to interest me

Asking more often than not gets laughs then a no.

Be firm and tell them what you expect.

This from someone who's been @ one place for 28 years and makes 7-1/2 times what I did on day 1.

You have to be a strong negotiator. Even asshat has given me the raises I wanted

There are far more advantages than negatives to salary.

Not when I normally get paid for 5 hours OT every week. And that's just me not taking a full hour for lunch.

I'm not upset with my pay as much as I feel we should get much more than 2 weeks of paid vacation a year until we've 15 fuckin years...o_O, then we only get 3 weeks. I'm not the only one who's upset about it.

The 'grandfathered' staff get, I think, 9 weeks paid vacation time.

I've been hourly and I've been salary. Will not consider hourly ever again. Hate being tied to the clock. Just don't relate salary rate to what you make for 40 hour week. I'd have to work 8 days a week to make hourly what I do salary. Sux that I wrk 6 days, but the $$$ is excellent

I'm roughly 36k a year hourly. No one salary here, works much less than 40 hours a week. I'd need some perks to make up for being here more.

It's not like I'm not dedicated, I get frustrated because I care. I show up to work on weekends when needed, and actually ask for it sometimes. If the building was on fire after hours, you best believe I'd get my ass here in the middle of the night in a hurry and try to run inside and get our servers out!

Salary where I work means health ins is 100% paid (instead of 50%) I get life ins... $250k. Auto (truck) expense account. 2 extra weeks vacation. And a few other things. Freedom from being handcuffed to clock is #1 though.

Also, contract here equals written contract with buy out. If I do get let go, there is a price to club.

No contracts at Richwood. It's at will, hire at will, fire at will, quit at will.
My perks aren't the greatest, but it's a helluva lot better than traveling for work. It also allows me to go wheel with you beautiful creatures.

New hires here don't get ANY vacation for a year. Personal days kick in @ 6 months, just 3 of them though. First 5 years is one week. They max out @ 3 weeks after 10 years. I got here under the old system. Then when I went from hourly to salary, I made it clear I was not interested in "new system". Good business people understand and appreciate a solid negotiator. We made a few compromises, but I got what I wanted. And that is more vacation time than I really have time to take. Part of why I got what I wanted is they know I'll always be here when they NEED me. I'm the only employee here that can accumulate vacation time. The rest are "use it or lose it" each year.

There are perks to being anywhere for 28 years. Even this hell hole....

BTW, Asshat was handed a new terms of contract yesterday. He had his wings clipped and is expected to be more involved with "member relations". He will crack under pressure of having to interact with people. His "people skills" are non-existent. His involvement in the financial end was cut dramatically. It is the board's way of forcing him to quit.

I won't work at places like that. Grow a fuckin set, and fire the moron. Don't pussy foot around to force them to quit because you're worried about paperwork!

If what you've said is even half true, which I'm sure it's all very true, then they don't need to force him. Just a swift kick in the ass out the door and toss his shit in the street.

It's NOT about paperwork. Previous administration set his current contract up to where he would have to be paid off to let him go. About 150K. They want him to walk. Saves a ton of money. Terms of new contract aren't so difficult to send him packing. We ALL want him to leave. Board officers included. It just has to be done by the book. Much of the new administration wrote the book on having gonads. They'll beat him at his own game. This much I'm sure of. But we can't bankrupt the club just to get shed of this moron.

If 150k could bankrupt the club, you might wanna rethink your own employment there man.

But I see your point. No wonder businesses don't like contracted employees. Especially when a severance pkg is that expensive!

This is a non profit organization. It's run on cash flow, but not an abundance of cash assets. NO country club has a bank full of money. Not how they operate. My employment here is safer than most any I know of. You just have to understand how they function.

If Asshat get's paid out, we ALSO would have to pay INCOMING manager. Positions such as this usually come with a signing bonus and relocation fee. He leaves it could potentially cost the club $300K to $350K. Not many cash flow non profits could withstand a single unbudgeted hit like that.

Most business' PREFER contracted employees. To the point the government restricts how many "exempt employees" a business can have. It provides a better control on labor cost.
