more power comes from more fuel, and boost needs additional fuel to keep the cylinders cooler. so if at WOT right now, your injectors are running lets say 75% duty, which I assume is a safe bet, and in boost you need <12:1 afrs (typically your afrs are ~14.7 during normal driving but do go rich under WOT even without boost but I'm not sure they maintain anything below 12) then just a couple of psi could put you in a lean situation very quickly and do some serious damage.

I don't understand all the boost sciences n shit, just NA mechanics. Thanks for explaining that a little to me.

I'm going to focus on a front bumper and winch, but save as I can for boost. $3k is a lot in one swoop, and that's how I'll do it. Buy it all once and be done, then install.
Yes, I want to skimp, but I want DD reliability. I'm not going much over 5 psi, ever. I peg the limiter enough as is wheeling, don't want to burn out my rings even faster.

the 2tr is stout, has the same block basically as the 3rz and has forged internals. that wastegate I linked comes with a 7,11, and 14 psi spring... 14 psi will basically double your HP because 14.7 psi at sea level is atmospheric pressure so you are forcing twice as much air in as it would naturally take in, so in theory 7 psi should net you a 50% increase (this number will actually more often than not be higher because you take restriction out of the intake and a good flowing turbo manifold like that one will lead to a better exhaust, and even more so if you get a straight through muffler to further reduce restriction) just something to give you an idea of how much more power you can have for your effort; I would think you could do 11 with proper fueling, but even at 7psi, if you are currently putting 150 to the wheel, you should bump into the 225 range conservatively and that will put you at or slightly above a stock 4.0 at the wheel... also think about if you could have bought your truck just like it is but with the v6 would it have only been $3k more? (and keep in mind you can realistically take it to a SC 4.0 level with proper fueling and engine management)

OVtune also is working on tuners for all the 2nd and 3rd gen trucks which would maybe be the best tuning option for your wants since I don't think it requires any wiring, so you may wanna keep an eye out for 2tr OVtune threads floating around

I'd be happy with 200hp! There's not much need, yet, to double it. I do need an intake and exhaust just for the pure decrease in restrictions.
The only other Tacoma that was for sale when I bought mine was a DCSB 2007 v6 with 80k + miles auto, asking was $32k. There was no way I was going to buy it!

I have my own opinion about OVTune from when I was a member on the Mazda3 forums. Personally, never dealt with them, but they didn't have a good rep there. People change, though. Maybe.

Do they have the hand held version or the end user tune version where they can hook a laptop go it and change things like timing and fuel tables?

They have the one where you send data back and forth 15 times before you actually get the final tune
    The 800$ one?

That's what they did on the Mazda forum too. My understanding is some people never got their tunes

The people I know running the OV tune are not exactly "happy" for the cost and the outcome on their engine performance
