I'm not discounting 255 yet. Bill has a line on cheap used tires and I'm more than glad to go that route for wheeling-only tires.
It's heavily dependent on what his homie has available at the time I say I want new tars.

 

That makes sense, I think I was mixing up getting 255 on 16s vs 285 on 17s.

 

They're all fat tires when going on a 2.7

255. Sidewall is about 1/2" overall measured difference from 285 on average. Sidewall weight virtually same with same brand/model. Weight difference is in tread width. And that is minimal. The "difference" is SLIGHTLY less rolling resistance with 255s.

I'm running 285s. They look better IMHO. Marginal difference except for clearance when turning at full lock....and I'm not having any issues with That.

Difference between 255 and 285 is overstatedfor the most part.

 

I just compared 255/85 to 285/75 in a Dick Cepek Extreme Country. 255 is 5 lbs lighter.

I already got em. Well, sort of. I'll have them in my grubby paws at the LBL meet in March.

Stock steel wheels. Not the generic steel spare type, the other steel wheel. They will be dedicated off road wheel/tire.
