    From "ask a scientist"

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Newspapers are good at cleaning glass because the paper leaves very little lint. Compared to paper towels, news print is much more rigid and hence the fibers will not individually separate like they will from a paper towel. This is the source of the lint. The ink does not come off for two reasons, one you are wiping a mirror or glass, which is a highly polished surface, so there is nothing for the dried ink to stick to. Second, upon wetting the news print with liquid, the ink becomes infused in the fibers of the newsprint. Think of ink as nothing more than a stain. It is hard to stain windows with ink, yet easy to stain paper. Glass does not absorb ink, while paper will. And so all of the dirt on the window or mirror will be absorbed into the news print.

To think of this more on a molecular level, the paper is nothing more than long interlinked strands of atoms with a flexible backbone. Glass however, is a highly crystalline solid that is hydrophobic (repels water). The molecular properties of each give the unique properties in absorbing stains.

Invisible glass, finish it off with a chamois and you'll have way less fogging.

Ammonia based cleaners suck, I quit using windex a few years ago and couldn't be happier.

1/2 cup of vinager to a 1/2 gal water basically. Now were talking the cheapest way possible. Just use a sponge and get it good and wet. Dry off with newsprint or paper towels. Spotfree, streakfree finish and you're not breathing chemicals.
Windex is about the biggest waste of fluid on the market. That blue stuff in you window washer res. is 99% water, 1% food coloring.

I stick one of these in the center console. I can wipe down the window when ever I want and it stays clean. In the spots I don't hit very well, like behind the mirror, I can see a thick film.

Oops, sorry. I skipped to the end when the off topic posts started.

I wipe mine down about once a month with a cotton tshirt from my laundry basket and it works pretty well.

it’s fine. and i was hoping they wear not going to do that but as you see they did and still are. (less off topic on something like this and people are more likely to read it all) and not post more threads.

i’m going to get some clear glass or what ever.

Mine does it as well. Annoying as hell... esp since I don't even drive it during the summer months... get in the truck and the window is white. I found a dry cloth(Like a bath towel) used to "buff" the window works better than any liquid. Iv even tried rain-x on the inside.

Cool...BTW, I'm a smoker and I would never even begin to ask someone if I could smoke in their car (unless they lit one up). I don't smoke in mine when I have a nonsmoking passenger (like my GF).

And yeah, that smell lingers on the seats even from clothes. Nasty, nasty habit.

yeah. i smoke a little, not much and i like cigars more. i can have like 5 cigars and a few cigarettes in like 3 hours than go 2 or 3 months with out one of either. but the scion smells like smoke now(never did before i got my truck) because mom thinks it dose not stay on the clothes and if the window is down it’s fin.
