I'm looking to disable all illumination on the instrument cluster: the center LCD screen and gauge backlights. Which fuse is responsible for those?

I've looked in the manual and there are multiple fuses under the hood and dash that are indicated as associated with the cluster, but many are also associated with other seemingly important systems like fuel injectors and ignition system.

My headlights will be off. The cluster still lights up and the LCD screen is still on.

They are obnoxiously bright with night vision goggles on and make it difficult to see the actual speedometer/tachometer/fuel/temp gauges.

I was being facetious. If you look at Wiring diagram u can see what fuses feed what circuits. Also, night vision goggles, while driving?

Well I don’t use nvg’s but it would be nice to have a blackout button.
If you’re parked, idling even w the dimmers all the way down it’s bright.

Pretty sure the gauge cluster can be dimmed. No?

Why you driving blacked out with night vision? Just curious.

Order a spare plexi and use it to trace a piece of cardboard. ~35$

Which wiring diagram would that be? The PDFs I found posted on TW for 3rd gens are strangely lacking one for the instrument cluster (or it's part of one of the other 30+ PDFs).

    Dimmed, yes, but not enough.

That removes the ability to see the gauges.

I appreciate the conversation, but we are now 10 posts in to this thread and have had more questions than answers to what I thought would be a simple question. I'll ask again in case anyone can save me from doing a bunch of trial and error with fuses: Which fuse(s) is responsible for the instrument cluster LCD screen and gauge back lighting?

I’ll tell you if you tell us why you’re driving with night vision goggles

Because without the night vision goggles I wouldn't be able to see when the headlights are off.

Yah this is leading to more questions. Why drive with the headlights off? Have you considered driving during the daytime?

    A man of mystery

I’ve not looked at the circuits, but i doubt theres a separate fuse for the center display. You could tear apart the cluster and remove the ribbon cable, or just cover the display

That wasn't the deal. You said you'd tell me which fuse if I told you why I was driving with NVGs. I held up my end of the deal...

Because he is probably hog hunting which is usually done at night under NVGs and is an awesome American thing to do.

that wasnt a valid reason. What is the purpose of driving with NVGs on, other than the obvious “cuz it’s like, dark outside, bro”

Or coyotes. Or he’s a bounty hunter. Or he’s a real life Dexter. Or he’s an angry old guy tired of kids stepping on his lawn and wants to swoop up on them like PD at night with no lights on. I gotta know the reason
