Went to the junkyard and found that late model Jeeps have the same dimensions on the Tacoma clip. Cut off and bought 2 for $2. No chime, no dash lights. Works great and you can just pull them out when you want to use the seat belts. Why go through all the dealer hassle?

I did both on my 2nd gen / dealer disable & junkyard mod (to get the idiot light out).
Junkyards in my area don't have late models. I believe the insurance companies restrict current models (10 years & younger) from hitting the junkyards to protect after market vendors. Thanks for the tip regarding the Jeep belts though; I'll keep my eyes out for both. :spy:

My dealer wouldn’t turn it off. I used Carista which is awesome because it doesn’t chime anymore. The only problem now is the light flashes. It would be nice to turn that off.

Found this as a procedure to disable the chime. Don't know how accurate it is though:

    Step 1
Insert your key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position. Do not crank the engine.

    Step 2
Press the small knob on your instrument cluster to cycle between your trip odometer and your odometer reading. Press the knob until it displays "ODO." Turn the ignition to the "Off" position.

    Step 3
Turn the ignition back to the "On" position and hold the small knob for 10 to 15 seconds. After the time has passed, put on your seat belt (while holding the knob).

Release the trip odometer knob to finish. Your instrument cluster will display "B off."

Nah. I don't care about the dinging because I'm basically deaf anyways.

I had high hopes as my Wrangler had a similar method thats known as the steering wheel dance, to disable the seat belt chime you'd have to turn the wheel back and forth in a certain manner. The steps were actually in the users manual too. Unfortunately the tacomas manual says the dealer needs to do it but thanks for taking the time and looking for us

Long story short. After dealer declined to disable the seat belt chime due to legal reasons i called Toyota corporate to open a case about it. Corporate said they dont have anything on file stating that and they see where its clearly stated in the manual that the dealer can do it. They offered to have a customer relation rep reach out to the service manager at the dealer which i declined to give the dealer a chance.
I go to the dealer and explain to the service manager that i have an open case with corporate and they disabled my chime in 5 mins.

I will ask my dealer to disable it next time I go in, but I simply buckle my seatbelt behind me when I need to disable the chime and hop in and out all the time.

I've seen a few of these threads in the past and no one ever mentions a DOG! My pooch is with me all the time and I hate that annoying ding. And I hear it every time she's with me during the day when I restart the truck. I had the dealer shut it off in my 2010, a friend do it in my 2012 with Techstream (after the dealer refused) and will try again on my '20. Good to see in a recent post here that the dealers should be allowed to do it.

Not sure if third gen is different from second. I did mine myself via internet search. No buying anything and im not super techie or mechanical.

Hated mine beeping when using back streets to the store. Much more peaceful now

I just used carista on my bluetooth dongle I already had hooked up. No more seatbelt dings and no more door open dings. It cost 10 bucks for the bonus features for a week. But they're set now so I don't need the software ever again anyway.
