Thats what I did, and it worked, mo more chime at all,
but it kinda worries me, cuz there was something else in there also, and I am not sure what it does.
It seems the sensor to the right is the one that matters for the chime, I think its normally closed, unless the seatbelt is latched.
So taking it out of the seatbelt latch, and putting some electrical tape over it to protect it seemed to work, I just stuffed it down under the seat.
Not sure what the sensor to the left is though, its also out of my latch and stuffed under the seat.

nah not hard at all, I think the seatbelt latch has a clampshell case you just pop apart to expose those sensors.
Take them out, pop it back together.

    HAHAHAHA!

I live in SD also and the dealers here are a bear to deal with. I purchased mine from Mossy in PB so I go there for the free scheduled maintenance. I asked them if they could disable it and I got the same answer you did. Except the guy I talked to was real cool and he was complaining about his 07 FJ Cruiser and how it had the same issue. LOL

I called a bunch of dealers around the county and I got the same answer everytime: "oh it's a liabilty issue... this and that, blah blah blahhh." I was like ALRIGHT. Never mind.

I just used my shop's TechStream to disable the driver's side and passenger side. Life is good now!

It's lame how the 2012 Tacoma's don't have the issue of the buzzer continuing to buzz away after the first time.

It just does its thing once and then it shuts the hell up!

all you have to do is when you go in for anything, an oil change, warranty work, etc. have a 12 pk (I would make it a premium selection) in the truck, and asked the tech who is working on your car if he could plug in the computer and disable the chime for you, and let him know you have something for him in the back seat...:D

In reference to turning off custom features like seat belt chimes, Is it worth getting one's own scan tool, if so type, cost, need, user friendly,?

Can you please explain how to remove the plastic cover to get at these sensors. Do you pry it open from the top (where the belt buckles in to) or bottom? I had a look and used my hands to see if I could get it to budge but it's solid as a rock.

You dont need to take the gray housing of the seatbelt buckle apart, just the black plastic on the bottom of it that holds the switches in.
Hmm, this thread shows the black plastic you have to remove.
Seems he did something similar to mine, but I just left the switches out, seems they stop the beep when they are OPEN, so there is nothing to jumper.

I disconnected the drivers door switch to stop the key/door chime. Be aware that this will also disable the overhead light coming on when you open the door and also not turn off the headlights if you use that feature. I don't miss either one... the overhead light is always in the off position so we can leave the doors open and a lifetime of other autos never had the auto headlight turn-off.

Just pull the switch rubber seal up and remove the one torax screw. The wire just plugs into the back of the switch. You need a small tool to undo the latch inside the back of the switch. I tied a strong thread to the wire/plug and then the switch body in case I ever want to retrieve the wire from inside the door column. Put everything back.

On my older '99 4-Runner, I had to make a thin insulating gasket to go between the switch body and the door mount as the wire didn't appear to have a quick disconnect. When the switch body is not grounded to the frame it acts the same as disconnecting the wire from the switch. I also put a very short piece of heat-shrink on the base of the mounting screw so the screw wouldn't touch the switch body where it goes through the hole.

Weahertecs, Bed met, Snugtop, Avid sliders, TSB Springs, Bilstein 5100's @1.75,
bump on the scanner question: Can anyone recommend a scanner that will allow me to turn the warning chime off myself? Can't get the dealer in my area to do it, even with a case of beer in the back of my truck just waiting to be taken.
