Again...The seat belt chime can only be turned off via the Techstream software through the OBD II connector.

I unplugged this plug under my 2012 RC bench seat and no seat belt chime or light on the dash. I would hope if something were wrong with the SRS I would have triggered that light also.

Credit to the other guy who said he just looked at a wiring diagram and said hey these two wires tell the system the belt is buckled so I'll unplug it. Lol!

    Good job bro!

Winch, front hitch, step bars, bed extender, bed step, gull-wing toolbox, tailgate lock, security system, cb radio, etc.
Several have said the air bag system is connected to the seatbelt system, with disconnected wires potentially disabling those air bags. No warning is given since nobody in the seat (no seatbelt) is a normal condition (when parked, etc). The other methods of disabling the seatbelt chime (buckles, clips, dealer codes, etc) don't disable the air bags (the seatbelts appear buckled).

I'll probably reconnect it, I like the idea but it's not worth the risk of non deployment of the bags!

My dealer told me today that they could not disable the seat belt chime because it was "factory". I have a 2012. Anyone know a dealer in Western North Carolina who is willing to disable the chime?

They are lying sacks of shit.

I have tool bags in my passenger seat all the time. I had it at the dealer and he just hooked up the computer and turned it off. He even asked if I wanted the drivers side off.

I would say bypass the jerks in the front and try to talk to the guys in the back. If you have it in for oil change or what every other make up a reason to get in the back to talk to the mechanic and make buddys and ask him to do it.

or they just don't know

The Toyota tech that works on my truck has 26 years experience and wasn't aware you could recalibrate the VSC computer in the truck until I showed him the pdf file on the procedure I found on this site .

Mike Johnson's Hickory Toyota. They had my truck for two hours this morning doing a routine oil change. I am not impressed so far.

I have to stop by and get some stuff from the parts dept in the next few days, my plan was to walk into service and have my owners manual and ask as I referenced the manual where it says they can turn it off for me, and I'll report how it goes, :)

I got fed up and went to eBay. China sells a plug for 6 bucks for both sides. Money well spent

Haven't seen this thread for a while, meaning I haven't read every post, but why spend money when you can do it for free?

    1) Turn the ignition to 'ON', but do not start the engine. Cycle your trip reset knob until it reads ODO. Turn the ignition back off. Wait a couple of seconds. 2) Make sure seat belt is not fastened 3) Turn the ignition back on, do not start the truck. As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset knob for 12 seconds. 4) Keep your finger on the trip reset knob. Fasten your seat belt you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". Take your finger off the trip reset knob and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". Turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt.

Does it just not work for a 2012?

As has been said many times, Mike, the sequence you describe does not work on the 2012 models.

Toyota parts department might give you crap about how the seatbelt extender being a safety hazard if the seatbelt extender is used for someone who is not big enough. If the parts department asks why you need it, just tell them your significant other is pregnant. No more seatbelt chime for me.
