Now *that* sounds like the way to go, if I cannot get my dealer to cooperate.

Does anybody know of a disable technique that works on 2013 models? The one's listed on here for 2009 models aren't working on my 2013.

There's another way to accomplish this (that may have already been posted, but I'm not going to read 450 replies).
Buy a seat belt extender. Plug it in. Done.
I have a left-over one from when we had a (2004) Prius. The extender fits the front latches of a 2014 Tacoma but not the back. I suspect all the front seat belt latches are the same on Toyotas, but I am basing this on one datum.

So if I'm getting it correctly, if you use the seat belt extender option, it will work fine on the drivers side AND the air bag will not be disabled, etc.? I suppose you have to click it in once you sit down..the same as if you were putting on your seatbelt (that is to say you can't always just leave it clicked in). And I'm seeing that it's hit or miss on the passenger side in terms of if it disables the airbag or not? I'm primarily looking for an option that works for the drivers side when I take short trips, etc. Thanks

Tried it on a 2012 and it did not work for me.
Did you need to let the lights come on then some go off or as soon as they light up.

Would like to find out how because this in a PITA when hunting, getting in and out for gates, backing trailers and so on. Takes your mind off what you are doing.

For the Late year 2011 and up to present you have to turn it off with software. The dealer can do it with Techstream.

    OR

This has also been reported to work: From this post: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd...ethod-diy.html

Boy, this sounds like the best way, but I just looked into all of the steps and being somewhat un"tech-savvy", I have my doubts. I understand OBD readers, bluetooth connectivity, etc., but when I "googled" "terminal programs" like "hyperterminal", "putty", etc. for my Mac appliances (desktop, laptop, phone), the download instructions talked about "emulators, line tools, paths", etc. This doesn't sound like your run of the mill "plug-n-play". Does it just sound more intimidating up front? THat is to say, is it more or less a simple connectivity with the device AND then run a downloaded "terminal" program? Who wants to be the first non"techy" to try this?

Or you could just have the dealer do it in 5 minutes for free. I tried "asking" two dealers if they would do it and both gave me the run around. Showed to a third dealer in my manual where it states it's an option and they did it without hesitation for no charge, as it should be done. Take your manual to the counter with you. :D

I asked two dealerships, and they want me to make an appointment, leave the truck, and charge for the service. I've also read somewhere that the system may "default" to the factory setting if the battery is disconnected, etc. If this is the case, going the dealership route would be a PIA. (Although, I would think that if you made this change to the onboard computer, that this should now change the factory setting)

Battery disconnected will reset to factory setting and you will have to turn it off again. This is the case for my 08' would assume it would be for all, but you all know what assuming does.

I used Techstream to do mine and I have had the battery disconnected for an hour at a time with no resetting needed.

I will second this. Battery was disconnected for the better part of a day and I touched the cables together to try and discharge everything

I have yet to need to reset mine in two years. Call bullshit on them wanting to charge you to do this. Talk to a manager. It's a factory programable option and I don't think corporate would approve of them charging for this built in feature. I'd raise hell.
