Looked through my 2014's owner's manual and it didn't mention there being any option for control of this chime.

I wear a seat belt anytime I go anywhere, but I don't always go somewhere! Many times I am either working on the truck, moving it to juggle home parking etc. and this kicks in. Very annoying!

I am still gonna ask the dealer next time I am there... will see what they say.

Look again on Page 561 in the owners manual: Section 6-2.

Good luck with having the dealer do it. Up here in MA, my dealer (Balise in W. Springfield) flat out refused to touch it, for "Safety reasons". I think that it was more for "Lazy reasons".

Could anyone address this? I'd REALLY like to be able to do this. I have a feeling that accessing the onboard computer would come in handy in the future if I want to change any of the defaults. Is it really complicated? Is there a reliable "terminal program" for the Mac that anyone has used? Thanks.

My dealer happily disabled my driver's side seatbelt chime in my '13 for free at 5000m service. I told them turn everything off if they could (door and seatbelt chimes). The passenger side was not modified and still chimes with no seatbelt. Anyone know if this is because ONLY the driver's side is modifiable or if I just didn't get specific enough in my request?

You weren't specific enough in your request. Each side has an On and an Off setting. If you asked them to turn off the drivers side then that is what you got. They can still turn off the passenger side.

Can't get What to work? The 2012 Tacoma and up have to be turned off via software through the OBD2 Port.

Maybe they are incompetent. No actually they would have to be incompetent.

I did mine ( 2012 ) using their cracked software (Techstream) and a knockoff chinese adapter in less than 5 minutes.

    Find another dealer.

I have a 2013 TRD OR, DCSB 4x4. Just looked through my truck manual and found 3 references to customized functions that can be done.

Page 410, 481 and 484. All reference the seat belt chime and door open chime. I am going to schedule a service at the dealership to have those disabled per the manual which I will have in my hand that is book marked and verbage highlighted in yellow. I bought the truck there so I expect no problems with the fix.
It is a PIA while hunting, locking and unlocking gates, hooking up my trailer and having my dog ride shot gun with me.

The late in the year 2011 had the newer Combination Meters installed and they also have to go to the dealer like the 2012's and up.

went to ebay and ordered the cable and software.
I have a MacBook Air with OS X on it. I was able to install everything needed to run Techstream from right inside Parallels (windows XP). Just shared the CD on my PC desktop and accessed it from the Mac while out in the garage.

The software came with 3 folders for different versions all with their own installation 'how tos', and which order to run the .exes, i used the one labeled techstream 7.2

i was getting unable to connect with VIM for a while until i followed the installation instructions more carefully. with the truck in the ON position, i was able to get techstream going, and change the seatbelt warning chime to off for both seats on my 2012. happy this worked! lots of good info here. thanks!
