Disable tire pressure sensors?

They will not reset at low pressures. I had mine sitting in my center console and tried to reset to them and the light would not go out.

Since then I've had them installed in the FJ Cruiser rims I bought when I had new tires put on.

One way to cover the problem is to take a small piece of black tape and put it on the clear plastic right over the light. Doesn't make it go out, but at least it blocks your view of it.

Standard Atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi.

Example: The tire has 35psi in it... That is gage pressure (as read by a tire gage). Take that and add 14.7 psi atmospheric pressure and you get 49.7 psi (absolute pressure)

So... if you let all of the air out of the tire you get 0psig, but you get 14.7psi... it all boils down to semantics.

 

i agree standard pressure is 14.7.. but rememberits compentated for at the guage , so 0 is 0.

 

but wait , what if its p-metric, then u HAVE TO USE BARS ..right?

 

I kinda did this. I took out the gauge cluster though, took off the clear plastic shield, lifted the black thin backing and slid electrical tape over the light. Then let the thin black backing back down, snap back together the plastic cover onto the gauge cluster, and viola! Make sure you use two pieces though. I used only one piece at first and it was still faintly visible in the dark...

 

after firestone owners, (the idiot ones) and our government deciding on TPMS (hey why blame an idiot, right?) we should feel lucky they didnt ban tires alltogether

Yes, I remember some people trying that. I think it only works on 05-06's, no 07's 08's or 09's if my memory serves me correctly. All I know is I have an 08 and was warned by someone else who has an 08 and tried it, that it does NOT work on 08's.

Black tape is much more comforting to me... nobody could find my black tape mod even if they were sitting in the drivers seat looking for it.

EDIT: I even believe someone looked up the diagrams by model year and confirmed this.

 

It would be like 30 PSI or so and the sch40 pipe will take a lot more than that to fail.

Fasten the "bomb" to the frame near the spare if it bothers you to have it inside the cab and make the valve accessible in case the pressure ever drops.

Cheap and easy mod that I'll do if I ever change my OEM rims.

There are some pretty good ideas on here. But as for me I know that when my light came on it was simply my spare tire pressure that had affected it. Once I pumped that back up problem solved. I'd say check that first.

 

The bomb or small tire tricks is for vehicles with new wheels that doesn't accept the sensors, if you have the OEM wheels and sensors, I don't see why this would be needed.
I've corrected my low pressure tires before they even start to show the bulge thanks to the TPMS system.
OEM tires lasted 40k with even wear so it makes sense to monitor your tires.

 

My light only flashes when I get too far away from the stock sensors mounted in my steel winter tire set stored in the garage.
When the light comes on, here is my disable light mod.
