I recently sold my ‘94 dlx pickup and bought an ‘18 Tacoma. Wow... a lot has changed.

Reason for this thread is the lights at night are too bright for me. I used to enjoy killing all interior lights in the ‘94 at night. Does anyone know or has anyone figured out how to do this with these trucks ? I don’t think I’d miss them during the day either. Is there a fuse maybe ?

I like to use the backup cam but that’s about it from the head unit.

    Thank you for any help.

You can turn the head unit screen off in the settings (it will still work when in reverse), the speedo panel you can dim rotating the trip reset button. That’s what I did and it’s pretty dark now inside.

With the head unit off, there are still Blue buttons lit up around it and the steering wheel has some lights on it. Does anyone know how to turn those off ?

Thanks for the tip about trip reset .. I’ve been reading about that one and haven’t tried yet.

the blue screen buttons you are talking about can’t be dimmed or turned off unless you want to disable head unit completely (i.e. no radio, backup camera, etc) from my research. The interesting part is they do dim if you notice when headlights are off, but there is no option to control it separately .

Buy tinted plastic or a piece of lamin x and put it over the buttons. I did that w/ my clock radio by my bed years ago..

Locate and remove the PANEL 5 amp fuse and verify if it has what you seek.

I was hopeful but the 5a fuse didn’t do it. There were two 5a’s in that panel. When I remove the first one, I was unable to find the effect. I took the other one out just for fun and then the truck would’t start. Might just have to put electrical tape over them.

I went for the low tech solution here . Piece of felt over the instrument panel an some black tape over the offending buttons on the head unit. Much better now .
