I have a new Spruce Mica. Awesome color, but everytime I look at it there are more tiny paint chips. Our other vehicle is medium/dark blue metallic and is driven over the same routes w/o any issues.
Just curious if anyone else has approached Toyota over a similar issue?

Yes, very dissapointed in the paint as well. Even with mudflaps the bottom part of my truck looks like its been sand blasted with rock chips. My past trucks never had this issue.

Actually for a brand new truck, the paint sucks. Worst paint I've ever experienced on a car.

I have a brand new VW GLI and feels the paint sucks as well.

The car has less than 5000 miles and has a pile of rock chips, I approached VW Canada and they inspected th car and said the paint was fine but offered an explanation.

Older cars used lead paint which is very resilient. New cars used a better for the environment water based paint, which as you all can see, has zero strength.

After researching the problem more, it seems every car maker is getting a lot of cheap paint complaints right up to high end luxury brands.

Sadly it wont change, but i did find a solution.

Get the car clear bra'd. It can be expensive, but seems the only way to avoid chips.

Toyota paint sucks. My 09 had rock dings everywhere. I check my 2012 after every drive and so far so good.

you can also thank your friendly politically correct neighbor for "orange peel" that is common with water borne paints.

Yep I notices some defect in the paint after a week of ownership.

There's a lot of paint drip and dust specs under the paint...especially towards the bottom of the truck.

paint blows on toyotas......clearcoat is super thin too. You can burn through it very easy and it starts to wear off in spots on some trucks from nothing. I have a few spots of it looking like oxidation where the clear coat is is clouding and wearing. Paint chips galore on the front....bumper is pretty shitty too.....and even some chips on the side of the fenders cuz once again....the paint is thin and sucks ass.

I don't think the paint is an issue but the clearcoat sucks balls

You can literally put scratches in it driving through long grass

To the guys having issues with the paint on the bottom portion of their trucks, that is normal. The paint is textured down there to prevent chipping. :)

define textured. because there are some specs towards the bottom that i can just break off with the tip of my nail.

i also can feel some runs on the drivers-side door near the door handle

Not sure how to describe it. On my '07, the bottom of the doors and front fenders is about 6" of textured paint. Maybe this has changed in later years :notsure:

Mine is like that, kind of a rubbery feel to it. Only paint issues I seem to have are the front bumper. Looks faded, almost chalky, and wax doesn't seem to help.
