So I got these headlights, even though all I really wanted was blackhousing headlights.

The 6000k HID it came with was trash, so I got Morimoto's 5500k and it's a lot better. The originals had were the H7A instead of H7B, so it left a dark shadow in the beam. Shadow was gone once the H7B were installed.

But I'm unhappy with the beam pattern. It's not really as defined as I'd hope it would be. Is this to be expected from these headlights? At this point, I'm thinking of selling/trading them for OEMs and just BHLM it myself.

Anyone have issues with aftermarket headlights and poor beam pattern?

Hard to beat OEM, lots of time and money go in to designing them.

I've got Spyder headlights and the beam cutoff is actually very clean. Not sure what you mean about yours - maybe post a picture of your headlights aimed at a white wall at night. If you mean beam intensity then yeah they're lacking because the projectors are pretty cheap, but the beam pattern itself shouldn't have any issues.

I noticed that the high beam reflective housings on the Spyder headlights work really well with LEDs but the low beams don't. When I swapped the bulbs my low beams were pretty weak, but when I turn my high beams on they're much brighter than stock. By a ton. People around here obsess about bright ($1,000+ houses and lenses) headlights, though, so expect some bashing if this thread catches traction. You can always get a hidden light bar. The people who spend all that money on expensive headlights do so, anyway.
