Also, would that be enough for it to be a true redesign or would it still be a refresh?

Did it occur to you that he's possibly using chemicals not meant for engine detailing??

You'll see corrosion if constantly put abrasive chemicals on metals that get really hot...

I'm just saying coming from a former auto detailer I've seen people that religiously detailed their interiors end up with cracked dashes because of all the chemicals they'd lather on. I can kind of see the same thing possibly happening to your dad...

Eh, get yourself a GenI Tundra Access Cab Limited. Maybe you'll finally be happy. Nice sound system plus 10.5" ground clearance stock, plus no goofy crossover exhaust, plus smooth as silk, plus 49 inches between the wheel wells, plus 75 inch bed, plus only 218 inches long with a nice 60/40 split foldup rear bench, plus V8.

Ten years out of production but still a better truck than a Gen3 Tacoma DCLB on ground clearance alone.

The challenge is finding one with low miles and west of the Missouri river so it isn't rusted out. Find one and Carmax will buy it for you and ship it for maybe $300.

    Thanks for posting!

Toyota does have forum monitors who look for concerns such as yours. You'll likely get a coupon book soon offering you full retail for your trade in plus a dozen discounted oil changes.

Take them to your Ford dealer and I'll bet they up the ante for you!

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Someone here swapped a 4.7 out of a first gen Tundra into a first gen Tacoma so it can be done!

This doesn't make sense......The engine operates at a fixed temperature, regardless of what state its in. If its 100 degrees out, or 20 degrees out, the engine still operates at the temp the cooling system dictates.

The good news with the 16 is the suspensions parts should be the same..... So it will be easy to mod.....

They're supposed to squeak, just like the serpentine belt. It's a feature to let you know they're working.

Personally, I'd worry if they stopped squeaking.

When I owned my VW GTI, I had issues with carbon build due to direct injection. This is because the crankcase vapors are circulated into the intake manifold via PCV (like most engines) and coking up on the intake valve stems and ports. Vehicles with port injection have gasoline washing over valves, which cleans them and prevents carbon build up. IIRC, the '16 Tacoma V6 is supposed to use both port and direct injection? So there shouldn't be any carbon build up issues.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    This.
I had my truck for 9 years and scangauge for probably 6.
20F is not as bad but still even at that temperature engine stays fairly cold. If you driving on the highway and not high revving I can see scanguage going back and forth between 150F -180F. with more time spent at 150F.
    But 20 feels like spring.
Try -14F. At that temp engine will stay at and below 150F and thermostat will not even open.
If our Engines could run at high temps we would not have milk shake problem under oil caps. If 4 inches from engine you can not get high enough temp to evaporate moisture, how are intake valves supposed to get at any high temperature being constantly washed by fuel at -14F and air coming over plastic pipe which insulates from engine at -14F.

With our engines, a fuel constanly washes valves so any carbon is instantly removed and with fuel always covering some of the valves with the layer, no way for carbon to do any serious buildup.
In direct injection with atkinson cycle. Not only you going have periods that valves are not washed but you also going have periods where unburnt crap will be going back into your intake.
And if you driving 2-3 months out of the year in negative temperatures, absolutely nothing will remove that carbon short of screwdriver, wire brush and a lot of elbow grease.

Between you and me, I am so tired of this cold weather and issues that it causes I would love to move out somewhere warmer so I dont have to deal with crap like that. I woke up today to -6F chipped Ice where I could, and my Truck was showing 13 MPG on the Highway. and thats with me driving at 55MPH

How much room you have in your house in Arizona :D?

Except that's your coolant [edit - not oil, though your oil once warm should get roughly to the same temp) temp, not the temperature in the chamber. The exhaust should be substantially hotter (more than 600°) which is what would recirculating.
