The first time I played disc golf was in the mid 1990's at George Ward Park in Birmingham, AL:

    https://www.dgcoursereview.com/mobile/course.php?id=615

My wife and I got so hooked that we played almost everyday and got to the point we'd do the whole course twice per visit.

When we moved away after a few years we never found a course as good as this.

We still have our complete sets of discs, they might be collectors items at this point.

Admittedly due to work and weather I haven't gotten much field work or rounds in this year yet. Hoping this weekend is dry enough to hit 3 or 4 courses.

Thankfully I have about a dozen courses within a few miles of me. Fairly big following in this area as the local shop just hosted "The Rumble" last weekend which had a good turnout...while I was working unfortunately...

I'll have to dig out my discs somewhere in the garage. I think we bought them at REI or some other outdoor outfitter in the mid 1990's. At least one disc had a shark on it.

Innova Shark probably. Good disc all around IMHO...

I think that's it. Now I've gotta find them. Do they still make these?

Yep, they're still around. Sharks aren't really popular due to everyone and their brother throwing Rocs and Buzzes for midrange discs. The older discs like the Panther, Gazelle, Mako and the likes I found to make some of my funnest rounds. Sometimes it's just fun to pull a disc out of your bag that everyone seems to have forgotten about and then put them on some of the most hairball lines through the trees.

Just an older mold from Innova. Pull a Wham-O out on a course sometime and watch eyes get big.

Yeah, my wife and I had to learn that lesson the first time we tried to play. We had a hot pink Wham-O and fluorescent green one. We showed up thinking we were loaded for bear. It got frustrating real quick...then we hit the outfitter store LOL!

Play a few "SuperClass" rounds with big discs like Condors & Zephyr sometime...you'll really appreciate proper golf discs afterwards... It's actually fun for me to just grab a putter or driver, mid & putter and run a course. If you get a group together everyone throwing the same disc makes it interesting to watch different styles and lines or shot-shaping.

I remember getting a hole in one...that's something you don't forget. I remember feeling really good about the throw...like a Zen state of mind feeling. Before I did it I really didn't think it was possible until it happened. Then the game expanded for me.

I work at a park with a disc golf course. It's a blessing and and curse. I'm at work when I'm playing. Lol.

Did you have a Ranger before a Tacoma?

The reason I asked is I had a 2001 Ranger before my current Taco. Plus your name made me think you had a Ranger before a Taco.

I got good use from my Ranger but when it goes, everything goes to crap at once.

No, not in Cali. I've played George Ward Park in Birmingham AL and a course in Burke Va.

Just a bunch of old crap
It's prime DG season in Phoenix. Courses have been really active, and we have some classic tournament quality courses in town where a few big pro events are held.

My old DG buddy who lives in Seattle is coming to visit next month for 2 full weeks. We will probably get 10 rounds in, easily. Time to dust off my Valkyries, my favorite Roc, and the trusty white Aviar.
