disconnecting middle seatbelt on bench seat

I have an '06 Reg Cab with bench seat, and I disconnected my middle seat-belt using the little button on it with my key. Once I did that I just retracted the seat-belt and it sits comfortably against the rear wall of the cab.

 

FWIW, I bought a 2010 Tacoma in which someone had sliced out the center seatbelt. It failed inspection in my state and had to be replaced.

 

I've had mine out 3 years and never an issue. I do have it at home so if it is brought up I could install it just ffor inspection.

Mine is listed as a 2 person truck so I guess I could argue on that premise as well.

Thank you for all of your advice. I did as suggested, drilled a hole through the plastic and was able to unhook the middle seatbelt. I thought a photo might be helpful for those who come looking for an answer. Thanks again!
