Discount Tire has their ups and downs just like any other company. I use Discount Tire for all of my tire needs even though they backed my car into the bay door and dented the door end in. Since I was not there when it happened, they blamed it on someone trying to steal my car out in the parking lot. The door end was folding in and not out. So, I stay away from that store and go to a different one. I have never waited over 45 minutes for a R&B, not once. If they say it will take longer than that when I walk in, I leave. I always schedule the first appointment of the day and show up 15 minutes early to the location if I am doing something other than a R&B.

Been going too discount for 30 years and have never had a problem with them, when they are busy you are going too wait just like any other place.Do the rotation yourself if you don't like waiting.

That's missing the whole point of the gripe. Rotation is tacked on to the price and appointment are key figures in all of this. Thanks though, I guess.

Luckily I haven't blown out any tires but that's definitely a huge plus for replacement. I ordered tires through sears if you can believe that, and will just do my own rotation on the street outside my storage unit. Will definitely be mildly embarrassing, but better than 2 hrs. Just need someone from here to call me and ask about the spacers before I start, haha.

Bummer dude. Yeah everyone of them here seem to be to busy. Volume = customers get screwed, all about the money.

That's why I no longer go to DT. I understand the upsell, make more money thing, but I also understand how hard I work for my money and I don't like setting it on fire. They did a good job mounting the tires and put the old tires in bags and placed them in the back of the 4Runner. I guess I can't really bitch because the service was actually good. I just don't like feeling like I'm getting ripped off and the TPMS rebuild service is a total ripoff IMO considering how uncommon it is to have a seal leak.

I've used discount tire a few times and have been completely happy with their service. Shops/vendors will always try to upsell you ... it's how they make extra money.

Your situation could just be that you happen to have a bad shop in your area. Heck many Toyota dealerships have terrible techs and other workers, but that doesn't mean that we should avoid Toyota.

I had an appointment with a local tire shop to have a nail removed and patched (not discount tire) and my truck sat in the parking lot for 45 minutes before they touched it. I haven't been back there since.

I'm on the "it's this one store" side.

I have a DT that my dad has always taken our family cars to, so I started going there when I could drive. That was over a decade ago, and somewhere during that time the customer service at this location took a dump. Turned to a different location and have only had good experiences. I asked about the spacers (after people on TW reported getting grief) and they told me no worries because they're hub-centric. They also check the spacer nuts when they do my rotations. I've only bought 1 set of tires (my 255/85r16 ST MAXX) from them for my Tacoma but they remember my truck every time it goes in. Tire rotation = 30 minutes, no appointment. If I know I'll be in a time crunch, I'll make an appointment and can usually get out just under 30...so maybe OP has a point...the appointment saves me ~5 minutes.

It's more than one store and the reality is Costco is stellar so the only reason for Discount would be if you have an odd tire that Costco won't accommodate. Back in the day they would honor TireRack pricing so I would research at TR and buy from DT however, they started carrying proprietary tire models so that isn't even an option anymore. No way I'm buying any tire that's exclusive to a single store and no way I'm going to deal with DT when I can buy from a company like Costco.

Not sifting through 7 pages of BS since the original post was simply bitching about waiting too long.

That being said, I've always had good luck with Discount Tire. Probably bought 5 different sets of tires from them. I always buy the tire certs too. Literally anything happens to your tires and they'll replace them. I ran my Nitto Terra G2s down more than 50% of the way and then got some sidewall damage offroading in the mountains. Tire still held air. Went in and asked about it and they said they'd replace it AND they'd buy the other tires back on a prorated price point. I think they gave me $45 per tire? So I got KO2s for dirt cheap considering I had 1 free tire and they bought the other 3 back. What other tire place does that? :D

OP must have come across the country..

I'm at discount waiting on rotate/balance, no appointment made 'thanks to the OPs warning'.
Guy was just in, had a quote for $864 otd from Costco. Discount matched it and beat it at $810 otd and the guy said it wasn't good enough..said "I gave you a chance" and left..

Sounds like an intelligent guy. He made a great decision today, sad part is he doesn't know how great it was. Did I ever tell you that discount tire sucks!

Anyone who makes sweeping generalizations about a large company based on one location/experience is a whiny little bitch.

We have 2 DTCs in my town - one is excellent. The other one always tends to screw something up. I've learned which one to go to.

I have limited but good experience with Discount Tire/America's Tire. But I have only bought and mounted new tires there, never gone in for maintenance or other service such as rotation or balancing.

My tires are under warranty from Firestone. Because they take at least 30 minutes to rotate my tires, I would prefer to do it myself in 15 minutes, and know the job is done right, also not have any new scratches or gouges on my wheels from the children they employ to rotate tires. The problem is, Firestone will not honor the warranty on my tires if I do my own rotation. They have to do my rotations if the warranty is to remain valid. I have explained my proficiency and my preference to the shop manager but he says the warranty work is a corporate policy, he can't do anything. My family has been going to this Firestone for many years, and the manager knows us all. I know he would help me if he could but he just can't do anything for my situation without putting himself on the line. Besides, it is a liability issue too... If I do my own rotation and tell the manager to update the service history so my warranty is valid, then my wheel falls off because the lugs were not tight, they get the blame? No. I would never leave the lugs un-torqued anyway, this is just an example of their liability when I am doing the work they are supposed to be doing. It's too bad the children doing their rotations don't know how to handle an impact wrench... they are probably holding a cell phone in their other hand.
