I just had some Wildpeaks put on TRD 4runner pro wheels and they were fine. I did make a point to tell the guy at the counter they were new wheels and to please be careful. They understand from that message that you will be checking and they should look like new. I did also tell him that if they opened a box and a wheel was sctrached to let me know before they mounted it.
Basically ask them to be careful and they will understand.

    Work in progress...
I mounted a few tires, while going to night school, never seen this kind of damage form it. The scrapes usually go in the direction of the rims not against it. I am not saying it didn't happen just wondering how it happened?

That sucks man. Sorry! I've had nothing but amazing experiences at my local DT.

That being said, I don't ever get any work done on any vehicle without taking video of the exterior so i have proof if they effed it up. Learned that the hard way when I returned an ATV that had scratches on it that weren't from me and I got charged for them.

    Good luck!

I've had nothing but good work from them. Going to get my new tires/wheels mounted on them this weekend.

Got a small nail in my tire over the weekend. I put the spare on until I had time to take it into a tire shop. Went to Les Schwab Tires today. The guy that wrote up the work order asked if I wanted them to put it back on the truck. I said "no thanks, I will do it myself and save you guys some time". They knew I was picky enough to want to put the tire back on myself plus I watched the guy do the repair. Les Schwab did a great job and I have had good luck with their work in the past too.

That's jacked up. But don't deadline Discount Tire because of it. Seems like a local / isolated / inexperienced or hungover installer issue. Take it up the chain of command. I've never had anything but excellent service from Discount / Americas tire, and they have the best tire protection plan in the business if you're an off roader. I've spent MORE just to go to them. Hell, I think they'll even give you the protection plan on tires you bought elsewhere and take to them for install (not sure on that though).

Only place I know of that will consistently honor their certificates for repair or replacement on off road tires that were busted up off road. And as I recall, not pro-rated either based on tread depth. As long as tire meets minimum depth, they give full replacement cost during the time of the warranty (3 years and minimum tread depth).

I've never had to use it, but at what...$25 a tire or something like that....I'm all in on that deal.

Been there done that. I had my 315's installed at Wheel Works on brand new SCS wheels, and I showed the manager every individual wheel, and asked that he put his most careful guy on it, cause if they get scratched their replacing them, if not I'll be out front with a giant sign that says "don't buy here" I got nothing better to do than go to the gym, starbucks and hang out in front of your store.

That being said, they still scratched them, but the center cap covers pretty much all of it

Problem is heavy tire/ wheel combo's, not caring techs, not asking for help and rushing.

While I like them, I have found I do need to tell them exactly what I want, i.e. "no weights on outside or rim" or "use Haweka adapter and do a lug-centric balance" (on the Gen1), etc. They've been more than accommodating when I gave them a little direction where they may not have been completely informed, or possibly cared because many customers just aren't informed.

Just bought some tires from them today and will get them installed sometime next week when they come in. I will definitely keep an eye on my rims and make sure everything goes smoothly now!

A long time ago I had a Ford Probe and discount tire scratched my rim. They owned up to it which was good of them. They were willing to get the damaged fixed but since I needed new hub centric rings we just called it even. The scratch was very minimal. I hope OP gets his rims fixed or resolved to your satisfaction. I just go to Costco for my tires myself.

Definitely sucks yes, but when you say "I've heard stories around town how they have damaged other people's wheels", pretty sure I would have searched out somewhere else to get new tires.

I had scs wheels installed at DT. The guy obviously knew what he was dealing with and gave everything great care.

I drive past two other DTs to go to that shop though. There's shit tire guys everywhere, use judgement when setting up the appointment. It's not usually the owner but the manager who is the problem. Sounds like this shop is still in growing pains.

They probably "torqued" your lugnuts with an impact gun too.
THIS is why I go to a local, independently owned tire shop. They charge less than Discount Tire, they stand by their work (detail oriented), and they let me put my wheels back on myself.

Everyone has a manager, ask for their regional manager's information. They can't deny you that info as I'm sure its readily available online somewhere. If they offer to fix them, I would accept.

Part of the reason they have very competitive prices is because they are paying their unskilled workers minimum (or close to it) wages.
Inexperienced workers = lower wages and lower workmanship.

That being said, they owe you new wheels or a fat check.
