Changed the oil and spark plugs today for my sister on her Hyundai Elantra. The dipstick is different from anything I’ve seen before and I love it. It is essentially a wound cable with the measuring piece connected to the end of it versus the typical flat metal stick. Another new item for me was the engine oil cap. Although it looked just like all others it operates like a locking gas cap in the way it will click as you continue to turn it. It doesn’t have a positive stop like has always been my experience. Who knew a 2013 Hyundai would have a couple of details I like?

Every time I check my oil I feel like the dip stick is cutting into the dipstick tube. It is definitely disconcerting :censored:. Would be nice not to have that feeling.

Can’t remember which vehicles but I’ve had autos with that design years ago. IMHO superior to the flat dipstick design.

I'm not so sure a cable type dip stick is a good idea. It can curl leading you to believe your oil level is low.
As far as the dip stick on the 3.5 tacoma, have no clue what these guys are complaining of. Mine comes out, and goes back no problem, just like any other engine owned, plus i've gotten the same accurate reading when repetitive checking.

I used to work at a gas station for many years. Checked oil on almost every make and model out there lol. Typically higher end cars use these and I hated them. They were more often a pain to put back in the hole (I know... "He couldn't get it in" jokes incoming...) and the plastic tip for measurement was always more difficult to clean first to get a good reading. These were super first world problems that required maybe two extra seconds and an extra ounce of effort, but given the choice, old school metal stick was better. The worst were the vehicles that didn't HAVE dipsticks, only electronically monitored. Because sensors NEVER go bad...

I have too, vaguely think one may have been a Cavalier.
